possible/practical to convert white dial guages to the classic black dials?
contemplating on converting the white dials to black dials. of course including the sprts chrono dial. i know it was a cost added option but now growing old on it and think the classic black with white digits are the more classic design with will last. Is it possible? Practical? DIY?

If you're ordering a car you can do it at no fee. If you have the car now it will cost you. The "S" models come with the white dials, the base Carreras with the black.

Certainly doable. I like to DIY, but probably wouldn't try replacing the dials myself; maybe it's easier than it looks. Funny though, my new Cayenne S has black dials and my Carrera S has the white. I like the white better and IMO they are easier to read.

Friend of mine owns a turbo and said the same thing about my C2 dials. I don't understand this to be that big a deal. I like the black one day, white the next, and yellow the next. You might want to consider spending the money on other mods. Cheers.

With the white gauge faces (they are actually silver unless you have the Carrara White gauge faces) you get both white and black. White in the daylight and black at night. I preferred the white (silver) gauge faces om my 996.
IMO, Porsche needs to drop their obsession with black bits. First it was the black PCM face, now the 2011s come with black steering wheel spokes and black airbag cover. It looks like crap on any interior color other than black. Makes it look like the owner was too cheap to order the steering wheel to match the interior color.

That's a good point (about the black). Have no idea why Porsche flip-flops on that stuff! Recall how they were the leading automotive producer in 1974 to eliminate all chrome from their cars. Everyone else followed suit. And then someone in Zuffenhausen decided that we needed to have chrome tail pipes. When will the madness end!!

Except on the dials, black bits look better in the 911 than the silver ones do.
At least it makes no pretense of being a cheap imitation of something it is not, namely aluminum. The silver buttons on the Benz are aluminum and look way better than the fake silver plastic on the Porsche.

If you do switch to black dials, might as well make the markings green like the original VDO gauges while you're at it. I've considered it before, but I'm sure it's cost-prohibitive.

What I an talking about is the black on the air bag and the spokes, no matter what color the interior is. See the three examples below. They are not the Blanc/other color combination. IMO, they all look terrible!
