997 Interiors: Satisfied?

I've noticed that the gen 1 PCM has a dial pad and generally more buttons. Are those buttons used to control basic functions? I can see, now, how a multi-func steering wheel would come in handy. Of course, there aren't that many times that the radio is on since I prefer it off so that I can listen to the wonderful sounds the car makes.
Oh, and the regular leather steering wheel is ok. I wish it was a little more grippier. Thinking about switching to the alcantara one. For those with the alcantara, is it durable and does it hold up well to regular usage?

Had the sport steering wheel in a 2010 PDK Cayman S loaner for a day and prefer it to the base steering wheel in my 997.1. The former was so nice and thick-just like my E90 3 Series sport steering wheel. Wish I could have traded steering wheels.

I am very happy with the interior of my 997. I prefer a plain and high quality interior for my sports car and basically that is what I got. I was a bit worried about the silver paint on some of the interior parts but it seems to be wearing well. I would have preferred a molded cloth headliner but I can live with the alcantara. The standard ( power) seats are great. I do not like touch screens or painted interior surfaces.

Like it - no frills, everything is in the right place and fits me very well.
Could use a bit more storage though. The little cubby past the stick barely hold a cell phone and sunglasses. Loading and unloading the doors or glovebox is a little much. That being said, I'm not sure I would like what they would come up with to fix it.

Over the years, unfortunately, Porsche has retained the term "full leather" but it really means "a la carte." I remember one of my Porsches from the 1980s that did have full leather--everything was covered with leather. Today, they see it as a way to make a lot more money.

I like it. It's simple and clean. Once I get completely comfortable with the toggle arm on the steering column, I will get over my problems with the touchscreen.

+1 Although a multi-function wheel would be nice. And a thicker steering wheel but there are many options. The digital speedo makes it easier for my daughter to bust me on my speed from her rear seat.

It's just OK. The overall shape and layout are good, but the standard leather is cheap, and the vinyl on the margins of the seats is pretty low-grade, even for vinyl. Also, there are too many buttons on the center stack, too much like American and Japanese cars of the '90's (Pontiac Bonneville!)
Last, dashboards should be black. Period. A Sand beige, Red, Terracotta or Grey car should have a black dash. Without it, the amount of interior/seat color in the car is overwhelming.

Its more than OK, its pretty much perfect for its purpose. Dan I especially like your color combo. By the way TOUCH Screens seem to work in the latest Fighters I dont see why it doesnt work here. It works for me. I came from the 993 to 996 (Awful) to the 997.1 to 997.2.
Ferrari over does it, the 430 interior is really beautiful but its functional also. You want something pretty to look at while waiting for Ferrari roadside service, so I get it.
But the 911 is not supposed to be ornate. You are supposed to have your eyes outside the cockpit. Thats another reason I like Touch screens. It only takes a quick glance to hit the virtual button I want. I dont have to scan up and down the switch panel for the right switch. The 997.2 cockpit is really functional. Its alot like the 993 layout without the oil smell.
In a fighter you want to be able to do a quick scan and get all the info you need. The 911 is almost the same way, after four editions I can be in a fast corner, do a quick scan and eyes back on the road.
There is now such a selection of seats that you should be able to find what you want.

I love the 997.2 interior. PCM is great. I have very little to no complaints. Simple, elegant, functional - in keeping with the car. A little under-stated - and thats a good thing.
I used to lust after Ferrari's and still think they are special. But not sure i would like living with all the attention. Their interiors are also in keeping with the rest of the car. A little more flash.
