Centerlock Wheels
Required reading for GTS owners with centerlock wheels and those thinking about buying a GTS with CL wheels (especially if you are planning to track your vehicle and/or have concerns about driving without a spare)--from the 997 GT3 board

His particular issue could be a variety of reasons and this is NOT a common problem with CLs. I suspect it was improperly torqued or a machining issue with his GMG wheels. I've done 15 track days and probably had my wheels off 10 times without ever having a problem. Porsche has also changed all their race cars to now use the same centerlocks as the 10'+ GT3 street cars. This design is already well proven on the race cars.

10 GT3...are you sure the race cars use the same CL system as the street cars? I do not believe they do as I watched many wheels changes at the 12hr Sebring race and the race car CL system is different.

nothing wrong with GMG wheels that I've heard of.....not sure about the aftermarket install issue but if you are refering to someone outside of the Porsche dealer installing CL wheels then there is an issue because I don't want to have to wait and rely on the dealer everytime I need to or want to remove my wheels.

Three Wheelin'
I had a Ford pickup truck one time and it made weird noises and somebody had loosened my lug nuts on one wheel as a prank. With the bolt pattern the play was substantial and the noise at 30 mph was disturbing.
If the Porsche Center Lock Wheels were loose and functional at all at high speed, that is quite a testament to the precision of their manufacture. That is a lot of reliance to place on a single nut, however. Unless there is a tangible benefit besides the cool factor, I would go with the traditional star pattern.
I have seen them and they look cool. But what were the advantages again?

Concur, haven't read too much of anything negative over CL wheels. Personally I hope I have a chance in my near future to talk intelligently about the matter.
10GT3 - love your car brother!

Fact 1: the CL wheels are a complicated design
Fact 2: changing them out requires specific instructions, tools, and procedures
Fact 3: "track rats" might remove/reinstall their CL's 10+ times/year, where a DD might do the same once every 1-2 years (or less)
1 + 2 + 3 = much higher chance of mistake/problem
There is a reason anecdotal evidence is completely useless in scientific studies. If you are prone to believing the sky is falling because someone told you so, I suggest you find a super safe, problem free car to drive. Like a Camry.

Take a look at the 2011 GT3 Cup, which switched over to this nut and hub deign. RSR for 2011 still uses the older CL, which is the same as on the Carrera GT. The nut on the newer design is larger and has more surface area, which makes it even more strange to hear about one coming loose. Porsche also ran the street hub/nut setup on the GT3 RS they campaigned in the 24 hours of the Nurburgring. They did use 18" 3-piece BBS wheels wrapped with slicks instead of the factory 19" wheels.
