Default Need help: 2005 CS or 2007 C??

Newbie here, need help!

I am looking to buy a new porsche, a 997 coupe. I am between two and I would like to hear from you what would be the best option.

1. Porsche 997 911 2005 Carrera S: $45k black, full leather black interior, manual, 27k miles, 2 owners, no body job.

2. Porsche 997 911 2007 Carrera: $44k black, full leather terracota interior, manual, 40k miles, 1 owner, no body job.

I would say in summary both has same optionals. 1st is a S, has low milage but is 2 years older than the 2nd, newer but not a S and more miles.

This is a real deal, I will buy one of this two until Friday for sure. I just would like to have a second opinion.

Thanks!

Allow me to answer your question so the more experienced guys don’t have to spend their time but you are posting in the wrong forum.
This is for the Air/Oil cooled 911 what you want is the Water Cooled 997 forum.
Current 997 owners will have experience in buying and selling of the water cooled Porsches and will be more helpful.

Your ultimate purchase will depend on a PPI (Pre Purchase Inspection) and how well can you negotiate with the seller. While some sellers are eager to except all offers and others are just playing the field to see if some one comes along with a big fat check and offers more than the car is worth.

I wish everyone would include where they live since that is also a factor of how much a car is ultimately worth.

Here in the U.S.A. the price of gas is going way up again and people will be scrambling for the small economy cars that get great gas mileage and all the fun sporty cars will be a hard sell.

I personally have never owned a Porsche so I can’t be of any help. I would like to get one some day but not now because I just don’t make that much money.

Do PPI for both just in case.

My thoughts:
(1) Honestly especially if this is your first Porsche, you will probably not notice the difference between the S and non-S.
(2) Given #1, I think your choice depends on what you think about the Terracotta interior.
Have you seen it in person? What do you think?
Personally, I find it to be very elegant, especially on a black car.

Take a detailed look at the cars and get the PPI done - great!

PPI and DME read out (first and foremost)

if everything checks out - offer $40K for the S. no movement, go to the MY07 and make offer (good/different color combo)

There isn't much differences between the 05 and 07, I would go with more HP every time, plus it has less miles.

Mileage is not an issue between those cars. But look to see which has more wear where you can see it (seats, interior things). The terracota is a tremendous interior choice, but it is not for everyone. MOst are a bit squeamish about getting it, but it is very rich. Remember to factor in the operating costs of these cars.

Hi guys. Also new to this board but thought I would weigh in as I just faced a similar decision. Mine came down to a black on 2006 Cs with approximately, 30k miles and a Atlas grey/Black 2007 C with less than 17K and a CPO. both cars were being sold by different dealerships. the asking price was almost identical. I went with the 2007 C. After driving both, the car just felt better and even peppier than the Cs. having owned a 964 with RS upgrades, I still preferred C performance. Guess, I am getting soft in my old age. Seriously, I think you really need to drive the cars and determine which you like. the individual carreras I test drove all felt a little bit different. I think it also depends on what you are planning to do with the car. The C is a little torquier at low end and actually feels quicker around to me even if it does not produce as good a time at the track. Another factor for me was warranty. Especially important in your case because both of the cars you are looking at have an engine design that may be subject to IMS (intermediate shaft) failure necessitating a huge outlay of cash unless covered under warranty. I will not go into the long debate over 996/997 engine frailties other than to note that you allegedly have a little more likelihood of developing this engine problem with a 2005 than a 2007. So that should probably be factored in. If you like the way the 2007C looks and drives, that would be my choice. Good luck with the purchase.

Both great cars.. My preference would be to find an "S".. but I really like the Black/Terracotta combo. Glad its not my choice !

I faced a similar situation and went with the 2007 C2. It had 11K and almost 6 months of factory warranty, that I can easily flip into an extended warranty. I agree with the other posters, I would lean towards the car that is in better condition, and has the cleaner PPI. I suspect once you have the PPIs, the decision will be easy. I spent 9 months looking for a car, sort of miss the search now, but am sure enjoying the new car. Happy hunting!

Well that cleared things up! The great thing about this forum is that everyone can give you the important considerations - but in the end, it's how you value them personally. Get in the hot tub and get in touch with your feelings. I understand your conflict age vs. horsepower. That's a tough one. +1 on the DME readout and PPI.

I'm not sure if you're aware of this one but it looks like a great deal:

2006 997S - 24,000 miles
$47,890.00
6 speed
Red exterior
Tan and black full leather interior
Sport Chrono
New tires

I think it is a fine example and a great price. Frankly, it was exactly what I was looking for, but there is a RMS seepage that he would not address before sale (for me anyways). He said he had other cash offers and I said good luck. If you search my posts, there is some solid advice about what to do and exactly what the report says. I think if it were repaired, the car represents great value.
