Most of the Audi/VW groups engines are turbo charged and it's relatively easy to extract more power from them by turning up the boost, fitting bigger turbos, different maps etc etc. A lot of the topics are around how much power can I safely get from stock internals. With a N/A engine it's very difficult and expensive to extract more power which is why I'm going to leave the engine in my C4S alone. If I want more power then I'll trade for a Turbo. That would be the most sensible route.
My friend has a 4wd Audi S4 in Canada that's been upgraded with a Stage 3 kit so it's effectively a RS4 (they don't sell them in Canada). It's putting out 460 whp from a 2.7T and it's stupidly fast (faster than a C63 AMG). All that on stock internals. He's now thinking about going for a rebuild with up rated internals for 800 bhp. Some people are never happy!

Had a 997.2 C2S, now a 997.2 GTS. Can't really tell the difference unless you get over 6k rpm to be honest. If you look at dynos of each, the torque and HP curves are quite similar except the X51 will continue making power all the way up to 7300rpm (HP peak) compared to the non-X51 which peaks at 6500rpm. Makes sense since both cars have the same peak torque of 310 ft-lbs, but the X51 hits that torque a bit sooner (4200rpm vs 4400rpm) and holds it to higher rpm (power is basically torque * rpm with a scalar multiplier).
