Tequipment Carrera S Powerkit

Anyone have any experience with the Powerkit? Difficulty of install and price you paid for the kit and for the install? Is the increase from 385 to 408 hp noticeable and worth the effort? Thanks for any feedback.

It came on my car and I love it. It changes the torque curve and makes the car more fun to drive. I am not sure it is a best buy by any means. But I want my next car to have it, too.

I doubt I would install it on an aftermarket basis. It is a lot of money.

If you are seriously considering installing the Powerkit, I would suggest you go test drive a 2011 GTS, which has the Powerkit. That will give you a "seat of the pants" idea of the difference between your C4S @ 385 HP versus the GTS @ 408 HP. Then you can decide if it is worth the money.

Gota911 makes an excellect suggestion. Even if you can get the kit at a discount, with installation the cost will be well north of $15K. That's a lot of money for a tenth of a second to 60. I'd want to try it first before I spent that kind of money for that kind of result.

The TPC Turbo is much more bang for the buck.

There's no way to retrofit x51. Sure you can get the airbox and the exhaust bits, but a real x51 has different engine internals :

So what is X51? Is it a good option for 997 buyers with a need for speed or the world's most expensive intake, exhaust, and remapped ECU? Before you think it's the latter, know that ticking the box marked X51 adds far more than a pair of new mufflers, a revised airbox, and different spark/ignition tuning. Revised cylinder heads, new exhaust headers, camshafts with more aggressive profiles, a different Varioram intake plenum, and new programming for the Bosch Motronic engine management are utilized to add more grunt to the normal Carrera S's 3.8-liter flat six. So the 26 horses and 11 lb-ft didn't come to Weissach so easily, after all.

Actually there is. All of the parts you mentioned are available as a retrofit kit. The Suncoast link below says to "call for price"; no doubt so that they can warn you to be sitting down when they tell you how much!

Yes--the retrofit is very possible. For those with some of the investment already made (e.g., PSE, and X51 headers, etc.) the balance of the kit will be less, albeit no bargain. But you do have the added security of knowing that the solution is a factory integrated solution and not some cludge job.

+1 or VF-Engineering S/C Kit.

Okay, fair enough, I should have said "no way to retrofit for a reasonable price" or "no *sane* way to retrofit". There's about a million other things I would do before busting open my engine for that, such as trading in for a GTS, or a GT3, adding a TPC turbo, etc. etc ;)

I recently drove the several 997.2 variants including the GTS at a P event. I first drove a C2S and then a GTS and honestly could not tell any difference other than the sound. Personally I dont think its worth the cost.

You should add few things including an exhaust kit or ECU flash for you C4S. It will be much cheaper than an X51 package, and you will probably end up with more power at the wheels.

No argument with that. ;)

I am actually quite surprised P-car owners don't dyno their cars that much with different components. It's insane how VW/Audi guys mod and dyno their cars and there's a huge amount of info available as to what component add how much HP, Torque, etc...

I love to know the following:

- Base C2S
- C2S + PSE
- C2S + PSE + X51 headers
- C2S + PSE + X51 Intake
- C2S + PSE + X51 Headers and Intake
- C2S with new program
- C2S +X51 bits AND new program

The belief is that adding X51 bits doesn't add much unless the car is re-programmed... however, on one's ever done a dyno/comparison to prove that one way or another... and if a good shop was interested they could have done a specific program for X51 headers and/or intake to take advantage of these only bits that are easy to add.

If this was an Audi, they'd be at least 20 charts on different forums debating! :)

difference is not as much power wise as it changes shapes of torque/power graphs and it helps a bit to provide more equal pull at different RPMs.
just put on x51 headers, any 20 cell cat and a softronic or any other flash - you will feel the difference.

PS. at this moment in time i would rather saved all I possibly can to have enough dough in 2013 to afford new 480hp gt3 with pdk.
