Default 2007 911 C2S- Advice on Offer

Folks,

I have lurked on and off the forum for at least a year and may be finally giving in to my desires to own one of these masterpieces. I realize this is a solid community of knowledgeable enthusiasts so I am soliciting advice.

The Vehicle:

2007 Carrera S
19000 miles
CPO
Arctic Silver
Standard Black Leather
Nav, PCM
Sport Chrono
Sport Shifter
PSE
Heated, manual seats
Colored Wheel Caps
Bose
19" Standard S Wheels
Clean car fax

In very good shape, tires are probably 6 months old, interior solid

Porsche Dealer ask is $59000- what is a fair price, what is a really good deal? Any gotchas? I am going for a spin tomorrow.

Thanks,

Chris

Pretty nice options. Around $55k would be a good deal in the current market. But if a really like it and it like your dream car, I'll take it for $57k. GL. Show us some photos.

$56k is a very good deal on a 2007 with 20k miles. Obviously it depends on condition and how much you like the specific car.

Hopefully they don't warm up the car so you can start it cold. Ask the salesman to start the car while you stand outside so you can listen and watch.

Drive it really hard in the test to see how it behaves.

A Porsche dealer should give you a DME printout for free.

Get a PPI.

Somewhere in the mid to upper mid 50's would be a better deal. 59K is not crazy, but the CPO and 20K miles is the selling pint for them along with great options.
If your ready to buy and they know it...you can negoitiate the deal.

I recently purchased a 2006 C2S with 16000 miles. It had almost every available option except carbon brakes. I paid 48K. I would suggest that you get a PPI with a DME readout even though it's a CPO car. I almost purchased a CPO car from a dealer that had issues that were discovered by the PPI that my indy mechanic performed. Hope that helps.

Not to be off subject here but today I am going to finalize a deal of a 07 Targa 4S with 20k miles CPO. Similar to pewter82's with same color w/o the hardback painted in red and SE and with turbo wheels. Right now, I got him down from $69K to $65K. Is this a ok deal? My wife wants to lease a new C2S PDK but only 6.5% off MSRP. Please advise...

Sent you a email ...

New cars are selling for 9-10% off msrp, from what I have seen on the forum.

Thanks for the advice but it didn't work out.

Had a scheduled test drive at 2pm
Called dealer at 11:30am to confirm
A gentleman walked in at 1pm and offered asking price

This one was not meant to be!

When cars, houses or whatever are selling for asking price there's usually a reason for it. I'm not saying the man who bought "your" car represents a trend but I was in the market myself recently and found the used inventory across the country fairly picked over. Two cars out of state that came close to what I was looking for were snapped up before I even had time to organize myself for a credit card deposit. Sure there are plenty of 997's for sale but low mileage, well optioned, well cared for cars in the most popular colors seem to move quickly. Maybe with the exception of GT3's. I saw some amazing deals on GT3's that just kept getting better while I was searching. All said, I think the days are over where you can spend weeks haggling and beating up dealerships on used 997's. Some fairly good size dealerships were down to 3 or 4 cars last month....all models 997.

True that to Sandwedge! I made an appointment to drive 2 hrs to test drive a 07 T4S w/13K miles and they called me at 930am that day saying it was just sold! That was after a month of searching for a nice C2S without great success. One dealer told me they sold 13 preowns in one week in late March! The market is going nuts.

Interesting; April is usually the beginning of the summer peak demand season for used sports cars; if inventory is tight already it will only get worse over the next few months.

Asking prices right now on cars.com :

(3.8 MT coupes only )

Sales guys at eight P-dealerships in Florida had my contact information and my preferences for two months. Got a number of calls with things like....."it's not what you're looking for but it's nice". The car I ended up buying barely made it to the marketing department and once there it was posted as pending. They called and said an -09 launch C4S with 1,900 miles was coming in as a trade and I had first refusal on it. If I didn't want it they had two others in line and said they could prove it if I passed since it would never leave pending status but go to sold. Not suggesting anyone should panic buy but rather suggesting that those who recommend low balling no end may be a little behind the power curve now.

Everyone here means well but there's a tendency among some to be the hero who's the best negotiator and the best deal maker and it seems like it never gets cheap enough. Again....absolutely no offense to a great group of people but if I had followed the advice of some here I would still be driving an -04 M3 instead of the -06 C4S I bought in May 2007 and put 40,000 miles on until just recently. Best 40K miles I ever drove. If I overpaid by $2K 4 years ago....so be it.

Thank you

Not to belabor the obvious, but you might ask about that lovely 2007 Coupe that Pewter82 is teasing us with. I'm pretty sure that one is for sale at his dealership. Don't know where you live, but his location is pretty much central to anywhere in the USA when you're talking about cars like ours. You talk it over, get a local to PPI it for you, and have it FedEx'ed to your driveway if the price fits.

Buying from a dealer down the street is fine if you live somewhere like Los Angeles, surrounded with a dozen dealers, but living anywhere else you miss out on some very nice possibilities if you only look in your own state.

Gary
