Can you guys explain why you aim for such low pressures?

Because my car is used on the street and runs the porsche recommended pressures of 33psi front and 39psi rear. I find after a spirited drive the pressures can get as high as 40psi front and 46psi rear.

Will dropping my pressurs give me better performance on the road or is dropping pressures just a track thing?

Just a track thing, no need to mess around with pressures for street driving.

On the track pressures can get above 50 psi with heat, which is not recommended. Also at high pressure tires become more round in shape, reducing the contact patch, dropping the pressure down keeps em in proper shape.

I wonder why Porsche list the rear 19 inch tires to be either 295 or 305 in width. Mine ('10 C2 coupe) came with the 295's PS2 N2.

Standard rear tire width on narrow body S (C2S), or C2 with 19" wheels, is 295. IF car has the Carrera Sport wheels (they're wider) the car will come with 305's.

The C4S, Targa 4S and GTS (the wide body cars) come with 305's as standard.

Just to keep things confusing, the GT3 (narrow body) also comes with 305's.

I'm not sure why they do that, they just do. I don't think a 10 mm difference in rear tire width means much in the real world. Except for tire price, that is!

Is it bad I've had my rears upto 48psi on the road then?

I just put a set of PSS's to replace the PS2's that were on the car, and were down to the wear bars on the rear.

also, I went from 19's with 295's on the rear to 18's with 265's on the rear, so not really an apples to apples comparison. but these tires are amazingly quiet; the quietest performance tire I've had. they also seem to wander less around LA's rain-grooved, pothole-covered highways than the PS2s did.

I did a quick blast down PCH and Sunset Blvd. to see how they did on winding roads, but alas too much morning traffic to get a real good idea. I'll report back later.

I'm looking forward to the longer tread life too...although the rears on the PS2's lasted 16k miles, and the fronts had tons of tread left when we pulled them off today, so I'm not really complaining about those.

update, I now have over 100 miles on the tires. just did a late-night blast down Sunset through Westwood and the Palisades....man, these tires stick! I'm really impressed.

there are better/grippier answers for track days or autoX, but for an all-around high performance road car tire they are phenomenal.

speaking of which, has anyone done significant heat cycles on these tires yet? I'd be interested to see how they do. I had a set of MPSCs on my old GT3, and after 12-15 heat cycles they were done. I wonder how the supersports stack up.

I had the super sports installed today. Purchased them through Damon at Tire Rack. Only have about 30 miles on them but i can confirm what others have observed - that they are noticeably quieter than the PS2's they replaced. What amazes me though is their weight - or lack of it. These things weigh next to nothing.
I plan to give them a proper run-in this weekend over in hill country west of Austin. Give y'all some feedback next week.

I put over a hundred miles on the tires today and i can state that they felt better than the PS2's I've had on the past several p-cars. The car is planted, lots of grip and there is no tire chatter. Literally, no noise.

I was a little apprehensive about switching from my normal PS2's but these are the hands down favorite.

My stock Pirelli's (rear) were in pretty rough shape this spring on my 06 C2S, so I pulled the trigger on 4 new tires. Personally I never liked the Pirelli's as they always seemed noisy with lots of road chatter, lacking in grip, and felt like they rolled a bit on corning. I ordered a set of Pilot Super Sports from Tirerack and had them delivered to Sullivan Tire for install on Friday. Tires look great on the car, sidewall profile looks far more aggressive.

My observation after a day of driving:

- Tires are quiet.
- Very smooth, the road feel and ride comfort are superior to the Rosso's.
- Corning feels like the car is on rails. The slightest steering input is reflected immediately.
- These tires have tenacious grip. The Rosso's were very easy to break away and get a little tail wag pulling out into traffic (probably explains why my rears were ripped up LOL) The Pilot Super Sports bite the pavement and simply don't let go.

Best of all, if the treadwear rating holds true, these tires should last longer than most. If you're considering the Pilot Super Sports, buy them!

When all of you get new tires installed I highly suggest you spend the $150 and have a proper alignment.

Very happy with mine.
- Low noise.
- Good ride comfort on the bumpy (my yearly understatement) NCAL roads.
- Very good grip! Surprising since they have a 300 wear rating.

Yes every 997 I've had the alignment was way off from the factory and I've had 3 997 cars

my car was bought used, but was aligned at ~30k miles, and the alignment was still out 6k miles later (thanks, LA County and CA DOT, for not maintaining your roads )
