Update on my PPI
I took the car to Parktown Porsche in STL today to get the hard copy for the DME readout. I originally had the DME readout done to the car at Reid Vann in STL about a month ago.
Reid Vann said the DME checked fine and there were only a couple fault codes related to the battery that needed replacement, which they did. I had the compression test and the car completely gone through. I got a very good report and I was pleased.
The one thing that I wanted they could not give me, was the printout for the DME scan. They have the tool to do it, just did not have the administrator settings to do the print out. They told me they have the ability to do it now, but could not get me in for a week.
I had the day off so I got into Parktown today and this is my readout.
Range 1 382 @ 431.5
Range 2 50 @ 431.5
Range 3 1 @ 363.6
Range 4 1 @ 363.6
Range 5 1 @ 363.6
Range 6 0
Operating hours counter 433.800
The Service tech says the Range 4-5 happened 70.2 hrs ago
The tech said 4-5's arn't something you want, but it wasn't something to be concerned about. He said if it had damaged the engine, it would be showing signs by now. Range 6 is the BAD one for sure.
The car runs flawless and has no odd noises or smoking.
I'm disappointed in Reid vann for not bringing this up and disappointed in myself for not getting a printout during the PPI.
I doubt I would have passed on such a perfect car, but I might have negoitiated that into the deal.
Opinions on the scan ?

Hmmmm....ranges 1 and 2 are pretty much non events....higher level ones are more serious. I'm thinking it looks like a missed shift with those numbers.
In any event, you have it now and if it's not having any problems forget about it!

I totally agree with Phil and Macster. It is virtually impossible to have 1 ignition in 3 successive Rev ranges.
A 997-1 DME records the following rev ranges:
Range 1: 7,300 - 7,500 RPM (Mid Point 7400)
Range 2: 7,500 - 7,700 RPM (Mid Point 7600)
Range 3: 7,700 - 7,900 RPM (Mid Point 7800)
Range 4: 7,900 - 8,400 RPM (Mid Point 8150)
Range 5: 8,400 - 9,500 RPM (Mid Point 8950)
Range 6: 9,500 - 11,000 RPM (Mid Point 10250)
At 7200 RPM you have 120 revs per second X 3 ignitions per revolution or 360 ignitions per second.
In your case, your car spent the following time in each rev range, assuming the midpoint of each range as the actual RPM.
Range 1 - 382 ignitions / 370 per second = 1.0405 seconds
Range 2 - 50 ignitions / 380 per second = 0.1316 seconds
Range 3 - 1 ignition / 390 per second = 0.0026 seconds (impossible)
Range 4 - 1 ignition / 407 per second = 0.0025 seconds (impossible)
Range 5 - 1 ignition / 448 per second = 0.0022 seconds (impossible)
Range 6 - 0 ignitions / 512 per second = 0.0000 seconds
I think that is a very solid (a.k.a safe) DME reading. I wouldn't loose any sleep over the Range 3 - 5 readings.

Looks like a glitch to me. There's no way to get only 1 ignition in that many ranges at the same time. It might not have displayed on the other facilities test. For piece of mind you could take it back and have the first place re-do it and print it out for you.

It's not that there is 1 ignition at the same time in that many ranges. It's just that the higher ranges are inclusive of the lower.
So, if someone takes the car to 9,500 RMP, that automatically trigers a record for all ranges 1 through 6. That's because an ignition at 6 by default implies that you have passed all the other ranges on the way up to 6.
It's just a single event at over 9,500 RPM.

You are correct that passing through the lower ranges to get to a higher range will initiate reves on each of the lower ranges. The number of ignitions recorded are the total for each individual rev Range. However, you will never have the same number of ignitions in two sucessive rev ranges let alone in three sucessive ranges. That is impossible.

But wouldn't it also calculate the revs on the way back down the range making each lower range have more ignitions? It's not like the engine can go from 8000 rpms to 7000 rpms in a hundredth of a second. I don't think it's mechanically possible to only hit three ranges like that.
If it where say:

that would make more sense, right?

Thanks for the great input guys, I feel better that it might have been a glitch.
Also, miles on the car are 10661 and total hours operating on the car are 433.8 does that mean the average speed is 24.5 mph ? or am I lumping two different ranges together ?

Usually we have found the relationship between engine hours and mileage to be more like 32 mph. Take 100 hours and multiply by 32 mph and you will have your 3200 miles. Recall that the print out usually expresses distance in kilometers.
