GTS if for domestic use and track, track only Gt3. Mike said it best... any variation of 997 more than likely will not provide a favorable customer impression.

FWIW, I guess I have/had all three.
My first 911 was a 996TT (X51) that would certainly fit your bill as a power junkie with the added benefit of AWD and very drivable as a DD. Not sure I would be happy on the track with it after driving both the C2 and Turbo at Barber; the Turbo is bunches heavier in the corners but has lots of power. After a short intermission (with an Aston Martin V8 Vantage), I decided I missed the 911, so I bought a C4S as a DD and it does that spectacularly. Remember the pictures of the Chicago blizzard? The C4S with snow tires got me off the Drive and home safely (yes, a little dodgy with 12"+ on the street but, hey, it's a sports car)! I had the 996TT in not that much snow and, as long as you put on winter tires and it's not too deep, it will take care of you if you take care.
I decided I wanted something to track, so I just also bought a new GTS, which was delivered 3 weeks ago. Wow! A whole lot more punch than the C4S and a lot more responsive. Getting back in the C4S is like being in a nice cruiser...which isn't a bad thing. For me, the GTS is too harsh a ride on the pot-holed Chicago city streets and I much prefer the C4S for my DD but the GTS is a better choice for the track, IMO. Just depends on what you want to emphasize.
The Turbo is faster than the C4S but not as much fun whipping it around as the GTS/GT3 options. I suspect the Turbo is a good compromise but you'll be happy either way!

For the guys that recommended the GT3, are you out of your minds? I just got back from test driving a low mileage 2008 GT3 with all the "must have" options, and must admit this car is buiilt for the track. I cannot see myself driving a GT3 on the street very much. It is a very firm ride, tight clutch and tight gear box and in my opinion, too hard for street use. Maybe I'm getting old but I would not be happy with a GT3 other than track days.

In all honesty I think you'd be happy with the GTS. My brother has an `07 Gt3 and it demands full driver attention, best suited for the track. IMHO the GTS will offer the best of all wordl Porsche. If you can drive one first...

1/C4S 2/GT3 3/GTS 4/Turbo
I didn't like the X50 996 Turbo for the roads around here, so don't need all that.
Never driven a GT3, dislike the wing, but I know it has a purpose..best drivers car I'm told
GTS seems to be the "car of the moment" and looks to be a great set up
C4S for those of us that are not professionally trained drivers, its a blast to drive and looks fantastic.
If price is not the deciding factor and the type of driving you will want to do with your 911 is figured in...it would be down to a C4S or a GT3 for me.

What about depreciation and the new upcoming model?
I also like the gts but think a used turbo might be more prudent financially?
I just hate buying new... but that gts looks awesome. Especially in the cabriolet which is what I am looking at.
I will probably go for a turbo cab, used, but the gts is compelling - especially as you get to pick your color.
Decisions decisions...

Turbo... if the same price as others it would be the best car.
