MyPorscheFever, congrats in advance on finding the ride of your life. Like you I begun my search 2-3 months ago and have just come to the end of my journey... the transporter dropped off my life long dream last week - a red on blk '08 C2S.

To be honest I began my search at the age of 18 when I saw a Porsche 935 in a show room. Since then I've been checking prices, buying time, saving, looking at p-car postings, and waiting for that perfect moment to finally arrive when the kids are off to college(well one is still left for another year), and my wife(an accountant) gaves me the thumbs up regarding the alignment of our financial stars. Up until now my stepping stone cars have been bimmers (540i, x5, z3, m3 SC'd). I even test drove the new v8 M3... but nothing I've driven and/or owned can give me the same grin rating as my C2S. test drive a bunch of variants (C2/C2S/C4/C4S/GT3/Turbo, etc.) and find the one you like. They are all good, but I am personally partial to the GT cars...

MyPorscheFever, Welcome to the lifetime addiction. I really was amazed when I first drove this car. I test drove one and than really quickly test drove a new M3 as I also own an older m3. There was no comparison, my heart was stuck on the 997 c2s. It is truely one of the best cars I have personally ever driven and I have driven about every car pre 2006( valet job in college). One thing I would recommend is to take time to decided on which car you want and make sure you actually buy the one you want. I had an urge to buy the first day but luckily this forum saved me and eventually 3 months later I got what I really wanted. Enjoy the hunt!

I recommend the C2S. The widebody C4S looks cool but all wheel drive makes the car heavier, slightly slower, and about $7K more expensive (when new). And I like the way the RWD car handles.

When you are doing your search try to find a car with Sport Chrono, preferably an "S" that has been well maintained. Good luck. It won't be long before you are commenting on a regualr basis here on the board.

Ditto. C2S for sure, with or without the Sport Chrono and it's dash wart. Mine doesn't have it for some reason. I am not sure the logic of the original owner as it has the PCCP option but not the SC. Most C2S on the market will have the SC. Improves the throttle response?

I have to admit that researching Porsche is not the easiest task. One has take time to go over the history of the make to grasp and appreciate some of Porsche design decisions. Also package selection can be a bit intimidating for new comers. Of course all this makes the task at hand fun and exciting.

So far, the journey abolished some of the automotive pillars I used to live by; one being the engine displacement and the second being ‘AWD or no grip’. I am realizing that power-to-weight is truly king and weight distribution (engine placement) and grip are very tightly coupled..
