We all know that color is something so personal. GT silver vs Platinum silver: I am under the impression that the GTS has a bluish hue/shade and the PS has a greyish hue to it . I have a few questions since I have not seen PS in person.
1. Have you seen both in person ?
2. Which one do you like and why ?
3. Does PS have the same depth/clarity as GTS ? (coz as nice as arctic silver was, it was a little flat (which quite a
actually prefer), I always felt that GT silver had that depth and clarity to it's silver)
4. Does PS also change color with every passing hour of the day ?
5. With PS in the mix now, does one feel the need to pay the premium price that GT silver command ?
Photos as always is appreciated. I'll start with mine which is GT silver.
i have seen platimun silver on a Panamera, and would say it is more "flat". simply put it is very much like platinum. kinda dull really. doesn't seem to have the mettalic luster of GTS to my eye.
I had a 2006 C2S in GT Silver that I just sold. And I recently placed an order for a GTS in GT Silver after agonizing (no exaggeration) between GT Silver and Platinum.
I took several visits to the dealer and was able to compare side by side, indoors, outside in sun, and outside in shade.
Both are great colors, much better than Arctic IMO. I agree with the post above that Platinum does seem a little "matte". GT Silver seems to have more of a metallic shine. Platinum Silver has a beige, almost gold tint to it. Its definitely a little different and I liked it. But I think that I would tire of that after a while, and since I plan to have this car long-term, I decide to pay the extra and get GT Silver.
I have Platinum Silver Metallic on my GTS. I compared Artic to GT to PSM as I was making my color choice.
To my eyes - Artic is the whitest, GT is a bit toward blue and has (by far) the most metallic chips in it (most shiny), PSM is more gray, maybe a hint of beige (in shade), and the least metallic of the three.
I think all three silvers mutate with sun changes, GT changing the most (most metal in it).
Having owned only Black Porsches before this, I'm very happy with my silver. In the bright sunlight, I think you'd be hard-pressed to tell one Porsche silver from another. They're not miles apart, IMO.
Photos, unless the cars are all shot at the same time, are not the way to judge these colors. Gotta be done in person.
Here you go.
GT Silver: GT3
Platinum Silver Panamera 4.
Platinum does seem a bit more underlying beige.
Both are lovely.
If you want bigger pics pm me.
You can see some significant changes in both of those cars even between the three shots.
Shows you how much variation silver shows. Really interesting.
Thanks for posting the side-by-sides.
Like other Porsche special colors, the GT Silver needs to be appreciated in real person under different lightings. It will appear to have different tints of colors inside it (kind of a very subtle combination of metallic and pearl paint), which would be difficult to view in pictures.
The best way to really appreciate the color is to look at the car from morning to evening. The color will change with different tints, and sometimes we couldn't imagine that it is the same car.
Unfortunately, above is hard to happen unless we already own the car, thus very few people can tell the beautiful effect of the these Porsche special colors. However, if any of us opt for these colors, we would not be disappointed.
Had GT Silver on my previous Porsche, the 40th Anniversary 996; when I had to have the rear bumper resprayed (because some tool kicked in the corner while parked outside near some bars), the shop told me it has a bit of black in it.
I once parked it next to an Arctic Silver Cayman, which looked almost white next to GT Silver. Whether the latter is worth $3K extra is debatable, but it's a beautiful shade.
I went through a similar decision process in choosing Arctic vs. GT silver for my car. Although GT silver has more "depth" to it and (IMO) is slightly preferable, I went with Arctic and spent the 3k elsewhere in the car. Form follows function.

Yes
2. Which one do you like and why ?
Like both, but picked PS since fewer out there and $3000 buys other goodies. I think of the PS as silver/beige not grey.

Not as shinny to me PS is more subtle but when polished has tons of depth
4. Does PS also change color with every passing hour of the day ?
Yes see pictures below
5. With PS in the mix now, does one feel the need to pay the premium price that GT silver command ?
I decided not to
