Not exotic, but exclusive!

I find it kind of strange that a normal C2s would attract much if any attention in Chicago. I know my 993TT doesn't attract any attention at all in NYC, nor do the litany of other porsches around here.

As to the original question, not even close to exotic.

Another factor is production numbers. 997s are not really limited or exclusive based on the amount of cars they are producing. Exotic? Nope.

(As someone pointed out above, that new commercial - Porsche Everyday - markets exactly the opposite of a limited production exclusive vehicle. I love the 997 turbo "school bus"!!!).

From Merriam Webster:

1ex·ot·ic adj \ig-ˈzä-tik\
Definition of EXOTIC
1: introduced from another country : not native to the place where found <exotic plants>
2: archaic : foreign, alien
3: strikingly, excitingly, or mysteriously different or unusual <exotic flavors>
4: of or relating to striptease <exotic dancing>

Check, check, check, maybe check?

Agree with the consensus here, I've never considered most 997 variants to be an exotic although the GT3 RS, GT2 and GT2 RS probably check many of the exotic boxes. The 997 is kind of unique in that it truly is an every sports car, but it's not an exotic. It's an incredible car, but it's (relatively) attainable and thus could never really be considered an exotic in the generally accepted automotive context.

If you look at it from a New Car standpoint, its a $80K purchase. Very few of us can justify that much for an entry level car...so that would bring in Exclusive...Exotic as the defined term, No, but in the minds of the everyday driver, possibly Yes, people tend to lump it in with Italian Sports cars, which are Exotic.

In my neighborhood where everyone seems to be driving Honda Odysseys and Toyota Siennas, I consider my Porsche 911 to be an exotic. In the real world, it is not.

In chicago, when I pull up in the club/high end restaurant with my 997 it definitely gains some respect. Most "nightlife women" think it is pretty sexy plus lots of guys check it out. Its pretty amazing how "exotic" people think it is here. My 997 is blk on blk with tints so it does look slick in the night.

To people that can't afford it, it's an exotic, for those who can it is not. Since I have one it's not an exotic, just too practical to be one.

As they say in Real Estate, "location, location".

I have owned a couple of exotics and none of them would be my daily driver. However, I have never personally considered the "911" an exotic as some may have you beleive.

Depends where you are. At a DE, my car is just a garden variety GT3. Dime a Dozen.

It was exotic until Porsche started telling people you could haul cow dung in it.
