Just picked up my new GTS and wanted to post a few initial driving impressions.
First of all, the keyfob is fantastic. Sits comfortably in the hand, turns both right and left without any friction or noise. The black is nice. Much more aerodynamic than the previous keyfobs. I find that both the right and left hand hold the key with equal composure. I put the key carefully on the desk in front of me, and there were fewer comments than I would like, so I will place a magnifying glass over it in the future, just to emphasize the slick ergodynamics. All told, the upgrade from a 2008 to a 2011 has resulted in complete satisfaction with the keyfob.
So, anyone sitting on the fence, I strongly recommend it.
I just bought an 997.1 C2S and both keys break in half when turning the key (like you would unsnap them to replace the battery). It is quite annoying to have the key fall apart all the time. Is this something that just happens over time? It seems to just clip back together so I'm wondering if anyone knows a fix for this other than buying the 997.2 key fob?
I was thinking about replacing the battery on one of them and then just super gluing it closed. Seems like a dumb idea, but I am getting sick of it breaking in half. Any better ideas?
Reasonable use of the keys should keep them serviceable for many years. Knock on makassar, I haven't had a key issue since I got the car in 2006. (56K miles).
