Default Sheared off fly wheel... Warranty?

I have a 2006 997 CS2 manual. Last night I received the bad news that the 8 bolts holding the flywheel and clutch to the transmission had sheared clean off. I have the pictures. Wow!
My problem, besides the bill, is that I do not track this car, I had driven it for a good hour in and out of traffic with good high revs, but no missed shifts etc, then stopped in a parking lot to look at a 993. On leaving I stalled it once, then restarted and voila, no clutch engaging reverse and the story goes on from there.
I don't get it. Is this a warranty issue? I have an extended warranty but it doesn't cover normal where and tear.
Any thoughts, previous experience?
Joel

Wow, the only time I have seen bolts sheer have been with 800hp on the track. That is definitely not a wear and tear item, IMHO. That is a manufacturer defect.

Yeah, agree, sounds to me like the bolts weren't properly torqued and they backed out a bit over time to give a little slop (flywheel slops rotationally a little on the crank) and then repeated normal clutching sheared them off.

Yikes.. best of luck with your car.. Did it damage any of internals in the transmission? I do have an OEM Clutch disc and a sport pressure plate i would cut you a deal on if you need it.

Thanks
Chris

No damage Chris... Just the sheared flywheel, clutch looks good, etc... BUT I am interested. Can you please explain the difference between the disk and the pressure plate? How did you come across them? Thanks...

The pressure plate is splined to your transmission input shaft. In between it and the engine flywheel is the clutch disc.
When you press the clutch pedal, you are compacting the springs on the pressure plate, which relieves it's tension on the clutch disc, thereby allowing you to change gears easily. When you let the clutch pedal out, the pressure plate puts tension on the clutch disc, coupling the flywheel, clutch disc, and pressure plate.
