Default 911 Transmissions made in Japan

Watching the tragic destruction in Japan I was reminded that my 997.2 transmission was made in in that country.

A search of this site indicated they have been made by Aisin Inc. for several years.

I was just wondering if this might impact sales of the new 911.

Jeez, let's just worry about the loss of lives and livelihood of poor Japanese and let's hope no Nuclear disaster happens!

New 911 won't come out for a year, even if impacted, who the heck cares in the grand scheme of things!

Hopefully the PDK will make the manual obsolete so this should not be a problem.

NO WAY PORSCHE WILL GO THE WAY OF FERRARI! Sorry for caps lock but that is an absurd notion. I will for sure have a PDK on my next 911 Turbo but I might bend and get some sort of 991 Carrera when they come out while I wait the two years for the Turbo. That car will be 6 speed.

Wouldn't that be just peachy! Maybe we can get them to add a few more cup holders while there at it.

If I want the computer to shift for me, I would go drive my Mercedes, thank you. The day Porsche does it, I will leave the brand and take my money somewhere else.

PDK is an Automated manual gearbox, it depresses the clutch(s) for you and will shift fast for you if you want it to

Wow, I didn't know that!

And seriously, with all respect, this is the problem nowadays. Now folks just think that shifting is all about banging from one gear to another as fast as possibble, with the help from the computer in the shifting action like engaging/disengaging the clutch(es) and matching the rpm in milliseconds.

In a manual transmission, the clutch is a continuously variable control that we can manually & precisely control the slip bewteen the gears, so to do things that a computer control gearbox will not allow us to do. I think Andreas Preuninger says it the best:

"Then also when I am racing, and want to really finesse the car into a slide, I need a clutch pedal and manual shifter." -- Andreas Preuninger, Porsche motorsport manager for high-performance cars.
With best regards,

Guess it is a personal decision based on amount of track work ?
Is the 918 PDK ?

I wonder if we could order our cars without synchronizers?

Good grief! Even on this thread the PDK haters are crawling out of the woodwork. This knee-jerk reaction is telling of their psychology.

For me, anything you can stick in D is an automatic. PDK is a mighty good one, and my next 911 will have the PDK, but it is an automatic.
