Thanks Ivandermerwe. I started out as a foreigner to the USA as well. We escaped to American during the fall of Saigon in '75 with 3 suit cases and our lives. Good life to all and thanks for the welcome. Semper Fi.

Now that you have your Porsche, you will definately be coming to the 997 forum for advise, information, to look at other cars and what they have like yours and with options you don't have. BUT there are two more things to do now. You should become a member - a very small donation of under $20 for more information and advise then you can ever find on the outside of this place and second post your pictures on you avatar so all can see at any time your avatar appears. Do it and become one of us and not a USER. Good luck.

herman maire, re the interior... the leather quality was similar but the 911's full wrap leather interior was a classic touch vs. the carbon bits with leather on the M3. Made the 911 fell like a $100K car... the M3 was a little too techno for my taste. The 911 seats wrapped me just right without discomfort and I could crank down some more for those DE track days. The M3 had a wider flat back with lumbers you can adjust as well but did not hold me in place as quite as well. They probably have a sportier seat option though. What really turned me off was the mouse/****. We had to pull over and spent 5 mins to dial in a radio station. Kinda took the fun factor out of the my test drive. My wife put it best... she really liked the M3 and accused me of having a bias against it because it reminds me of a sedan. She pointed out all the conveniences of the M3: more back seat room for extra passengers, more luggage room in the trunk, etc, etc... but that's why I got her the war wagon(the Lexus GX 470). It's a great people and grocery bag mover. I get it now... the 911 comes from the other extreme of the spectrum. A race car Stuttgart modified with luxurious leather so you can use it as a DD.
USMC_D1.. Great write up! Loved the whole story. Congrats on the new ride or should I say red/black leathered mistress! LOL No the feeling doesn't go away...most of us can vouch for that...me going on 3 911's later am still in love with mine. Your Chinook reminencense made took me back to my days at Quantico and Bancroft Hall and the grinder as well as sand fleas on the isle...you chose an appropriate color my friend semper fi! Thanks for your service from those of us still serving!

As for the M3...I understand...had the same conflict..so I adapted and overcame like my old SDI taught me...I got both! Take care and enjoy her...she's beautiful! Semper Fi! Rob

UhRah devil dog Rob... love the mean green ride. BTW, my wife wants the new M3 so bad she threaten to trade in her '09 GX470 and teach me a lesson on the track when I get back. Gotta love a gal with hot shoes...

Thank you for your continued service and defending our way of life. BTW, my older boy is in his 2nd year at A&M doing his part in the Corps of Cadets and Marine ROTC program with dreams of wearing the eagle globe and anchor. Keep a lookout for, Ryan Jech, in about two years... Semper Fi, James.

Default An introspective look back after the 1st year of ownership

It has been a year and 5K+ miles since I purchased my ’08 C2S with 45k+ original miles. She now has 51K+ miles. Uncovered this postings re my 1st test drive. Happy to say we’ve both come a long way together and the car-neymoon is ongoing. Little red riding hood continues to light my days and rock my daily drives. To be candid I think it’s taken me a good year to truly appreciate her nuances and driving dynamics as compared to my prior front engine cars and I’m still learning… don’t worry it’s a good thing. Like discovering something new in every drive about your soul speed mate during those 1st years together. She’s also cured me of a few old road afflictions. With my prior BMWs there was always something else newer, faster, cooler on the road that caught my eye. Not so much with this one… she’s got my full and undivided attention. It’s also the only car I’ve owned that has similar affects on neighbors, kids, teenagers, soccer moms, friends, and other men young and old. This week alone I had no fewer than 5 different individuals complement me about the car. And the driving characteristics and performance has lived up to the 911 mystic I speculated about as a former BMW enthusiasts.

From a maintenance perspective she’s been a gem. The p-dealer I purchased her from did replace the RMS(sat on the car lot too long) and a broken tailpipe before I closed the deal. The car carrier also stressed/loosen my steering column during transport and my local dealer tighten a few adjustments on the steering column under warranty. Recently one TPMS sensor was replaced under warranty. Outside of that it’s been preemptive DIY maintenance on my part especially as I approached the critical major inspection at 48K miles. So over the past year I've performed the following: 3 oil and filter changes; replaced cabin air filter, spark plugs and coils, air filter, serpentine belt, radio dials; partial coolant flush, brake bleed, a 14 hrs car detail and color correction weekend with my son’s help, and hand washes every other weekend by yours truly. In total, I’ve spent ~$750 on parts for these DIY projects and for me the opportunity to learn more about this wonderful machine has been priceless. My next preemptive DIY will be the water pump and some more coolant flush. Including the WP I’ve spent $1,000 in parts to get thru the 48K mile marker and after this it should be minor oil changes and brake bleeds until 96K miles. Very reasonable for a car that retailed for $100K originally. Note: some of these service items(like spark plugs and coils) may only require inspection vs. replacement per Porsche but I prefer to replace them myself vs. paying a dealer to just inspect an item. Plus to really get in there to do a proper inspection you’ve already removed the item which is cheap compared to the labor. Lastly, I just don’t want to deal with seized plugs at 96K miles when Porsche requires replacement… IMHO way too late. Better to replace if you have the skills before real issues arise.

From a modification aspect I’ve added Porsche Sport Pedals and clear side marker lights, Porsche 3rd radiator, Rennline front fascia grill, hardwire for the Escort Redline RADAR Detector, and an IPD Plenum. My next project is an B&M Short Shift Kit… part on hand but just waiting for a free weekend.

In general, I appreciate the car now more than ever. It has provided me with endless hours of driving pleasure, elevated my mechanical consciousness of how to service this rear engine 911, and created gobs of soul speed connectivity to the car of my childhood dreams. Life is truly good when you're driving a 911...

I just got my new to me 08 C2S in Guards Red over black.
Wish I found a full leather interior car but PSE and red seatbelts will have to be enough for now.
I have not done a intro post yet.

I had a E36 M3, Z3 M Roadster, and a Z4 M Coupe.
Too new to tell how to compare.

The Z4M had amazing seats and this C2S does not have adaptive seats but I'm not unhappy.
I love the color combo and really wanted the Carrera sport XRR wheels and so glad I got them.

Wish I was handy like you to do all that work.
I will get the red center console from Eric and maybe a few other parts.
Then the LED taillights and maybe a thicker steering wheel. The M Z4 had such a thick steering wheel it makes this one seem a bit skinny.

I'll post my intro once I've driven the car a bit more than 7 miles and detailed it and taken pics.

Thanks for sharing and interior pictures would be eat.

OK, I had to catch myself here...when I saw how much you love your car (and your writing is FANTASTIC and also thank you for your service so we can enjoy things like our Porsches...and everything else, for that matter!), and the fact that you had purchased it at Newport Beach Porsche, I was initially very sad...because I know my 2008 C4S is on the lot (25k miles, midnight blue, midnight blue rims, 6 sp. manual, sport chrono), or at least I think it is (because I can't bring myself to look at the dealership when I go to/from work out of a fear of seeing her sitting there waiting to be purchased) and I can only hope that the person who buys her has the same passion you do for your beautiful red Carrera. Now, not that I don't absolutely love my new 4 GTS, but it's like giving up the most loyal dog and getting another one...you don't stop loving the first one! Anyway, when I saw that you had picked up your car a year ago, I breathed a sigh of relief learning that you didn't pass by my baby...

My gf laughs at me every time we go by the dealership and I still close whichever eye is closer to that side of the car and hold up my hand so as not to inadvertently see my car (but she's been incredibly cool never to mention if it's there)...and whoever ends up with her, I hope they love her as much as you love your car!! Let the "sickness" continue because if loving these cars are a sickness then I never want to recover!!

Andrew, welcome to RL and congrats on the new ride. Always good to see another convert on the forum. I need to add red belts myself to complete the interior. Painted center console and seat backs would add another touch of "bling". FYI, Eric is great to work with... I purchased a few items from him recently. Very professional and timely customer service. Would be interesting to see your perspective re your former BMW's and the 911. And please post some pics when you get around to it. Plan on detailing my interior within the next few weeks so will post some pics then of my interior for you. BTW, RL and renntech.org are excellent resources for DIY. Much of the common maintenance items are covered and please feel free to PM me if you have any specific questions.

Jackson, thanks you for the positive comments and especially your patriotism. I can only imagine your trepidation with giving up your former trusted steed. Hopefully the GTS has been a salve for those separation pains. BTW, your GTS is gorgeous and a classic for years to come. It's truly a sickness... the way we feel about these cars. I have my own fears about having to give this one up in trade someday and have convinced myself that she will be passed down to my boys instead. After all can you imagine one of these beauties in 20 yrs when my boys are in their early 40's. By then who knows... p-cars may be all electric the way things are going. Guess I'll have to start storing fuel for them as well. haha

Uh-rah Colorado... BTW, I was stationed in Lowery AF base back in the 80's. Great duty/base for a Marine.
