Peter Egan's column is one of the reasons to keep subscribing to R&T. Here's his article on "The Timeless 911".

For sure. I pointed to that same article on a previous (puff piece) engadget article thread, as counterpoint. I am glad you posted it separately as it is a very good article. Egan gets it.

Love Peter Egan. He also writes a column in one of the motorcycle mags I read at Borders when I have to waste some time.

Soon time to take the cover off the Z3 and blast around with the top down, too!

That article captures perfectly why I drive a 911.

Been subscribing to R&T since January 1979 when I first got my license. That January issue featured a 4 door Corvette concept car. Corvette never did build a 4 door car; but, Porsche did.....who could have seen that coming?...lol
I have always enjoyed Peter Egan's writings. I remember when the R&T crew built a Westfield Lotus 11 replica and Peter wrote about the build. I wanted one so bad I couldn't stand myself. I read about his cross country trips in a Model A, 1963 (?) Cadillac, etc. I always felt like I was there with him.
Unlike many of the current writers and television personalities, Peter understands how cars work and has been turning wrenches since he was a kid. I identify with his thoughts and feelings about mechanical things. He is the reason I still subscribe and his column is always the first thing I read when the magazine arrives in the mail.

good article. to me, 997 car or z06 are both pretty great, i would like to own both if i could. still imho 997 is a better overall bang per buck fun wise and performance wise and that is why i still own it and still enjoy it pretty much. good car. hope next, 991 or how will they call it, will be even better.

Based on what he actually wrote, your statement is somewhat overstated, IMO. FWIW, he seems to be hedging his comment.
Peter Egan wrote: Although I have a slight preference for the size and balance of the Boxsters and Caymans (I never rule out getting myself another Boxster S), I have to admit that the horsepower, interior space and overall quality of the 911 have become increasingly attractive.
