Default Can someone post a pic of a 997c2 s temp controls?

This may sound like an odd question, but since I'm looking for a c2s I had a friend in the area where they have them (I live a couple hours from any MAJOR city) look at a couple.

One he found he said it was in nice shape but the passenger side climate control button was white or worn or something.. he said the rest of the car interior was pristine so he though maybe someone with acid on their fingers touched it or something (jokingly of course).

I guess I just want to get an idea of what this is.. or if it's a simple replacement. Little things like that irritate the bejeeeezus out of me.

He did find two.. one 07 sc2 cab with about 32k miles on it for about 56k and one 08 sc2 coupe with about 8k miles on it for about 68k.

He liked the coupe but I like the cab.

Thanks for any help on the acid button finger thing. haha..

Can't give you a picture--I have a 997.1 However, the issue may be related to the slush finish that Porsche uses on their buttons. We have found that someone with oily fingers (or with cosmetics on them) have a tendency to break down that finish prematurely. I haven't ever had a problem with such a breakdown, personally, but several on the 997 list have.

Makes sense it's the passenger one then... How about a fix? Is it as simple as replacing the button, or do you have to tear out the dash to get to it?

Yep, that's it.

I actually did a google search and found a lot of different models with this issue. It's a small thing, but every time I look at it it would make me cringe... may have to just wait for something better.

I really want a cab... the 08 coupe is nice... but.. well, "don't settle".. right..

Oh great.. salesman emailing me now wondering when I can come up.. lol..

Your picture shows everything except the climate control buttons that have the problem with the black flaking off.

I'm careful with mine and haven't had an issue yet (now 5 years old). But on my previous 05 cab, there was slight evidence of flaking. I believe it is a bit of a pain to replace them.

The climate control switch gets the worse. Note, you'll need to replace the entire A/C head-unit to fix any cosmetic issues. The A/C head-unit is $500 parts extra for labor is 1-hour, but takes 5 minutes to replace. However, if the P-car is still under warranty the replacement is FREE.

Worn buttons bother me as well and I wouldn't buy a car with them.

I have never understood how some cars have all the buttons worn off and others are like new for several years.

My conclusion is the lotions women and perhaps some men use on their hands. It will also peal the letters off a keyboard in a pretty short order.

Another good reason to wear fine leather driving gloves--and your passenger as well.

It's just gorgeous. Bought new off the lot, so no cocoa for me. This time...

It's all about upbringing, respect for hard-earned cash, and care. I have seen 20-yo cars in better shape than 1-yo cars trashed by their owners.
