My 993 C4 suffered catastrophic damage one icy cold morning in the NW. The deer did not walk away, but I did. She is dead and buried. It was over ten years of bliss. Well, like any marriage it had its moments.
I am looking at a 2006 997 C4S with 38k on her. She has had one owner. The warranty has expired. Before, I bought my 993 I researched them and knew what I was getting into. Are there any issues to lookout for like the carbon buildup on the 993 heads that trips the check engine light that very easily sets a owner back 10 to 12k.![banghead](https://rennlist.com/forums/graemlins/banghead.gif)
Also, the 997 is a NC car. Thank you.

Have a proper PPI done by a knowledgeable 997 mechanic, checking the usual 997 suspects.

I got a 2007 C4S and it's absolutely been the most reliable car I've ever owned (only 15K though)... if your 2006 is a LATER build 2006, it's got the updated IMS and as others said run a PPI and look for over-revs and also if you got a good mechanic, get it inspected for leaks, etc... otherwise, 997 is really reliable.

The 997 is generally a well sorted out automobile. It learned off the 996 for all those years. Much of the external body is similar to the 996, while the suspension has been beefed up and the internal cockpit configuration will look quite familiar to a 993 pilot. The engines are all related to the flat boxer Boxster and 996 Carrera engines, but just more mature, with most issues sorted out.
My late 997 (production in late May 06) only suffered in time from a leaking water pump (Porsche still doesn't know how to build a water cooled engine) and a premature serpentine belt failure. Generally, it has been pretty reliable. Carbon on the heads? You're not driving it fast enough!
