GTS Center Lock Wheel Change: Tips and Tools
#16
Now that I have the tools, torque wrench, breaker bar, paint can opener to remove the caps, brake depressor bar so I don't have to have the wife come put her foot on the brake, it's great. I love them.
Don't forget the optimoly grease to lube the nuts. Tha's important.

Even if you're not someone like me who has had wheels off a few hundred times in the last 10 years for driving events, maintenance, cleaning, etc. there's the already thorny issue of flat tires on these cars. It's bad enough that you might be stuck somewhere without a spare, but not having a way to get your own wheel off just compounds the potential problems. If I had CL's I would definitely want the tools to remove them myself; all due respect but it's not a "non-issue" IMHO.

I watched some Center Lock wheels changes this weekend druing the DE at Sebring. They are super simple to do...and no real big deal. Yes you need the big long torque wrench but they are fast and simple...just different than 5 lug, nothing scarey about them.

concise tool list
this posting is to help others who follow me - I am about to acquire the PITA Center Lock wheels (I thankfully avoided the PITA PCCB's). I have been researching the tools required to swap centerlock wheels and found it difficult to get a concise inventory of exactly what you would need to order. This posting will be that concise inventory - many many thanks to the multiple postings that lead me to this list - but the information is spread across multiple postings.
I put this list together for the internet junkie that doesn't want to talk to anyone on the phone and actually visit a website and place an order. NOTE: there are substitutes for most of this stuff, but over all this is a pretty good list IMHO for one stop shopping. All of these parts are reasonably standard and available from many places - however not all places have online ordering for the 3 am shopping spree - now you have a complete list to build your very own Porsche PITA Centerlock DYI Wheel Removal Kit (PPITACLDYIWRK)…
It turns out if you want to have tools/parts/supplies "on-hand" to deal with Porsche Centerlock wheels you could need up-to all of the following parts. This list should be useful for the DYI, track-person, or OCD person looking to have all the tools/parts "on-hand" if want to take your Porsche Centerlock wheels to a random tire shop or have the tools on-hand to change wheels at the track or in your own garage.
Tool List
Total Cost w/Tax + Shipping is: $1025.33 - it can probably be done for less - but this is essentially the "kit" you'll need to DYI your very own centerlock wheels. I love owning my porsche, it's my bank that doesn't like it.
Other things to consider:
Centerlock Tiedown converter - great for those that trailer their car.
Wheel Guide for mounting wheels easily - apparently a must have for PCCB owners.
Discussion of both can be found here: https://rennlist.com/forums/997-gt2-...-diy-guys.html
anyways I hope this helps - I'm sure the internet will jump in and correct any mistakes but this is the list of parts I've obtained and use for my car.
