Hi Chuck

Actually I had already looked at that video. For me it's impossible to get anything from it as far as the sound. Can you compare and contrast the sound of the Borla to the sound of Fabspeed and AWE?

Thanks

I know exactly what you're going through and for the same reason. I just recently installed the Fabspeed mufflers (on my 997 carrera) back in December and have never looked back. I looked at AWE, B&B, and Borla. Fortunately, my dealer does lots of aftermarket exhausts (They don't sell them, the just install them). Anyway, they had a 997S with AWE, a 997 carrera with B&B, and another 997 carrera with Borla. When I first heard the fabspeed, it was on a 997 turbo. The head mechanic said "exhausts on turbo's sound differently then on naturally aspirated cars. NA cars sound a little deeper". That said, I took the plunge and got the Fabspeed. Now that the mufflers have "warmed" up, MAN IT SOUNDS KILLER! For me, it's the perfect blend of throat and Porsche. I'm a little biased now, but having heard all in person, I'd definitely say Fabs. Feel free to PM me, I can send you clips from before and after!

First clip is stock, second is PSE.

Welcome to RL and thanks for signing on as a sponsor.

We need to support our sponsors folks. It's what makes RL go 'round.

Hey Nick

As you have heard all 3, why DIDN'T you go with the Borla?

Thanks

The black 997 with the Borla is my car when I had the Borla. It's the best sounding mufflers in my opinion. Very throaty, loud when you want it to be, and no droning.

I know it's hard, but can you quantify loud? When cruising (top down in my case) can you still talk to the passenger? Would the police be inclined to stop you for loudness?

Any of the Tubi, AWE, Fabspeed, Borla mufflers will not be loud enough to cause you any trouble with the police or your wife in the passanger seat. I owned Fabspeed mufflers on my 06 and 07 C2S...on 06 was a Cab and I have Tubi on my 09. I've instructed in a 997S with AWE at the track...they all sound good not a total night and day difference just little harmonic sound differences.....like I said the Fabspeed has a great "wail muffled Cup car" sound at high rpm's, Tubi is a little more raspy and Borla is a little more muffled sounding than all of them.

Thanks Mike

At this point after listening to all the available sound clips and listening to everyones opinion I'm thinking the Borla is for me. I really like the design too.
I've been speaking with IMGT3 on the phone and he's been a great help.

Skibum,

Yes, I installed mine with a single jack – did one side at a time. No big deal at all. Actually, it was so easy I may buy the Fabspeed bypass pipes just to sound bad *** on race days…

For the record, that Borla clip sounds great.

Hey Ski,

The borla is awesome, but I wanted the ability to have the stock tips. The borla mufflers and tips are all in one piece. The borla sounded awesome. It was definitely deeper (in my opinion), but I choose the FBSPD because I felt it was very guttural and thought it retained that distinct Flat 6 rasp really well (and I could keep the stock tips/look). I don't think you can go wrong with either.

Don't forget about the Gundo or PSE hack. Way cheaper and gives a deeper tone. Most people say it doesn't drone but at 75+ it does a little. I think any of the louder aftermarket cans will be louder at higher highway speeds.

I made pre and post video. It is hard to tell on a video but it gives some idea.

After adding the cold air intake (deleting the Helmholtz resonator) it really wails above 5K rpms. This video is pre air intake.

Hey Upshift- didn't you have to remove the rear bumper to change the mufflers? I found instructions for that but it looks like there is still heatshielding etc. that must be removed. I was thinking about doing AWE sportcats myself but I don't want to get in over my head.
