BUY 997 C2 or Cayman S

Nonsense. The only regret you will have is if you don't buy the one that your heart really wants.
IMO go test drive them both and sit in them and pick the one that speaks to you and don't listen to anyone else.
Also if you really want a C2S but settle for a C2 due to budget you might regret that down the road. It's only $5k more on used cars, probably worth stretching for that, or waiting until it's in the budget.

How tall are you and do you have any reason to put kids in the back seat?
What's more important to you? Looks or driving feel.
I miss the hell out of my 987S Boxster S. That car was WAY more fun to drive than my 997S...but I didn't fit in it well and my kids couldn't ride in it with me.

My only advice is to find the "do you drive your 911 in the rain?" thread and PM all the participants. If you can find an **** owner who is ready to sell, you will get an incredible deal on a barely used 997.

I was in similar situation when I bought my car. My options were brand new Cayman S, or certified pre-owned C2S. I am so glad I chose the pre-owned C2S; I have never regretted my decision in 2 years. If I were you I would buy the 911 C2, or a certified pre-owned C2S.

owned both - prefer the 997S over the 996 over Box over the 1980 911 SC
I think it's likely most will agree the Cayman will handle better, but they don't look better (IMO)
and yes, rolling up to a light next to a 997, you'll wish you had his car - and he likely thinks this too

I own a Cayman S and am currently considering a C2S. When I bought the Cayman, I test drove both cars and simply found the Cayman S to be much more fun to drive than a 911. The 911 was great, of course, but handled quite differently. I'm 6'4" so it's a bit of a tight fit for me, which took some time to adjust to, whereas I had tons of leg room in a 911. I think what has gotten me thinking about the 911 is the 2 seater setup as a daily driver (and only car) is very limiting. If I have a passenger with me, it's very difficult to find somewhere to put my things.
I think it's nonsense to say that anyone in a Cayman wishes they had a 911, had I wanted one, I would've bought that. It's going to be a compromise in handling going from a Cayman to a 911 IMO, but I really need the extra interior space.

We should all own a 2 and 4-seater Porsche. Maybe someday!

As for me, I'm 6'2", so the Cayman is tight. Looking for a pre-owned 911 and prices are high.
Even small kids find the back seat of a 911 confining. Why they even put seats back there, I'll never know!

seriously - get what you love AND want.
when I owned my Boxster though, it made me long for my old 911
neither is a bad choice at all

I have a friend who's 6'3" selling his 2000 Boxster and looking to buy a 997 C2S or 4S. He liked the Cayman but feels it is too small and confining for him.

Thanks to everyone for your reply. Decided to wait another year for the new 911 instead.
This is not my first Porsche. Had a 964 C2 before. Currently owned a 2011 Cayenne S, A8 and E92 335i.
The Cayman or 997 was to replace the E92.....
