Beware: Cautionary Tale of a Private Sale gone really wrong!
I know this is the P-car forum but as a fellow enthusiast and also an owner of an 08 M3 too this is so sad! I guess sometimes it really does pay to sell/trade your car over the internet huh? Shame tho as material possesions are not worth one's life as they can be replaced. However it does serve as a cautionary tale for those re-selling their vehicles. Best of wishes to the family on the owner's recovery and hope they catch the persons responsible and put then away for awhile!
I guess the only scam is not on ebay anymore. On a lighter note...maybe there will be more trade ins! At least then you know who's robbing you as depending on your negotiating skills you either get a fair bargin or get jacked face to face!

Selling an expensive car is serious business. The few time I have done this, I was very precautious - there are several good websites with great information on how to do it safely - even then, it can be a PITA.

Which websites?
Which websites do you refer to?
TIA,

it caused a local outrage and parole board was fired essentially but i do not think it will change big picture of how liberal government wants to treat convicts. in good old days they would be sent to crush rock in arizona so they could die off natural causes there but these days those career criminals play hoops, watches tv, have 3 meals a day and enjoy life. no one has a good solution of what to do with all this mess, prisons are overfilled and population is growing.

What to do with the criminals turns out to be a long study of a complex moral and philosophical issue. You can start with Rawls above as mentioned or really take it back even to Cesare Beccaria. Historically - even long ago - it has varied with public sentiment and period philosophy. There are no good 'ol days.
I consider the theft of personal property to be just a notch less serious than murder - I'd treat them the same although that probably doesn't meet the test of just deserts.
But this case is not really about the death penalty, it is a failure on the criminal justice system to protect society from a person who does not respect the laws of society. It doesn't necessarily mean our laws or philosophy or morals have failed, but likely the execution of the process to do what it is supposed to do failed.

HA! I don't read it..my buddy does and sent it to me! He has a few Audis as well as an 09 M3 coupe and has always coveted my 997's! Maybe he figured it would make it easier for me to sell it to him! LOL
As for me...when I sold my X5 I did so with caution and prosepctive customers got to meet me at the visitor's center of the base where I was stationed (aka federal property) with the security forces guarding the gate to watch over us/me. And if that wasn't enough I have a few friends to keep me company if needed.
