question about K40 RL360
I have great experience with Escort 9500s, I have one in my 997 and in the CLK320 and love it. Now is time to get a unit for my wifes M6. I know that alot of people on this board swear by V1s, but I dont want to get that one due to some things I have read on the radar boards about the filters. Plus I dont care where the radar is, if its nearby, I'm slowing down. My installer suggested I look into the "new" K40 RL360. It looks pretty good from what I can see, and it is a clean installation using just 2 leds and a remote control for all adjustments.
I just wanted to see if anyone has some real world experience with this unit.

I've had/have V1's, Escorts and K40's over the years.
By far the K40 is the worst performer of the 3 with the V1 and Escort being very close in effectiveness depending on your application.
In your case...I would recommend a remotely installed Escort product.
Just my .02

Radartest.com has pretty unbiased reviews of these things, IMO, although they do sell them too.
Anyway, here is a link to their updated camparo of the Escort 9500i to the V1: http://www.radartest.com/article_2.asp?articleid=100578

My 997 had a K40 installed when delivered new and was left in the car when I bought it with 19K miles. I flew to the car in Danbury, CT and drove it back to Kansas City using my V1 at the same time for a real 2 day mega miles comparison.
The first thing I did when I got home was remove the K40 system including ordering a new trim piece between the gauges and steering column when they drill those two holes for the stupid little lights. The V1 out performed the K40 at a completely embarrasing level.
If you want steath the passport recommendation makes sense but it sounds like you are on with another 9500ci.

I just had the K40 RL360 installed last week. So far it's been great. My only complaint is the Verbal notification is a bit low. My installer has mad some speaker adjustments. I love how "stealthy" the unit is. Very clean install.
I just bought a V1. Based on reviews and people I trusts experience. The escort wad another option but I think the real benefit if the escort us the gps speed cameras that I dont have in my area.
As a radar 'professional' the line of sight advantage of a reasonably sophisticated superheterodyne receiver will routinely outperform any 'stealth' installation, because the stealth installation generally requires the receiver antennas to be located low on the body of the car. Earth curvature gets you every time.

I was going to go with the K40. Decided to stick with Escort 9500 (have an xi in my truck). Just was unsure, some great K40 reviews some not so good. 9500ci seems to get overall good reviews.
Got a ci installed here in the bay area at Premier Mobile.
I absolutely love it...
- Install is super stealth. The receiver is mount low but not behind body work. I understand stick it high has advantages over hills, this is nice out of the way and not behind anything, include the wind shield.
- They made a custom plate mount that lower the rear plate to accommodate the rear receiver right above (versus on) the plate.
- Receiver works great. GPS marking is super, system has warned me a number of times, few false alarms and no warnings which I could not adjust what I was doing in time (e.g., I never got a warning so late it was worthless).
- Have one laser warning and shifter use. A CHP can up behind a few cars in the left lane (I was in the middle and already moving right). The trailing car moved over, system then warned of the laser as I moved over with the CHP a ways behind me and then stopped warning when I have cleared the lane. Seems strange the CHP has a laser on while driving but it seemed that is what he had. No problems as I was not even at the 65 limit when he was behind me. He ended up a few cars behind me and got off at an exit.
Overall love the 9500ci, the K40 would have to be stunning to make me want to change.
Thanks to Premier Mobile for the "perfect" install.

gstahl,
Lets see some install shots of your new install. Glad your happy I had the 9500ci and made the change when K40 came out with the RL360, for me I am glad I did. Both units are good though.
Looking forward to seeing your pics.
