question about K40 RL360
#16
gstahl,
Not to short the 9500ci but to me it's like buying a car with 2 wheels versus four wheels when comparing the 9500ci and the RL360.
what I mean is having a radar with one radar receiver versus having one with two radar receivers and that is one of the biggest reasons why I went with the K40, they can tell me if the LEO is in front of me or behind me the 9500ci cant do that having only a front receiver. Outside of that they both have the GPS however the whole undetectable got me with the K40. I didnt want the display or control panel I personally only wanted to see it when I needed it.
I am glad you are happy with your still looking for you install pics

Many of the K40 experiences in this post are with the older K40. Anyone with experience with the "new" RL360 ?
Yes i am part of the V1 cult .... every car in the family (8) in the last 12 years have had V1's but i am intrigued with the RL360 for my new 20122 TTS

I hated the K40
Here's an old review of the escort vs. V1 in my real world testing a few years ago: http://forum.roadfly.com/threads/898...13#post8987213

roadrat,
like many others you are probably basing your K40 feedback on their older systems, their new RL360 is the newest radar on the market. The V1 and Escort you tested are portable radars and can not compare to in installed radar.

I have an escort and the k-40 and I cannot tell any difference in the distance nor the performance. The k-40 alerts and I look around and sure enough there is a cop somewhere in the distance. I also have the laser diffuser which I have not idea if it works but its good enough for me. The cops aren't stupid. They use thes k-band and laser guns and if you are in seeing distance and they pull the trigger you're done. Sure....you radar went off but you're still getting a ticket. Best radar is your own eyes.

In that K40 video there are no cars in front or (it seems) behind the test car. Nothing else for radar to bounce off off thus increasing the sensitivity and range of the unit. Having said that I do not necessarily think that a long range in a radar detector is necessarily a good thing (more false positives and then you will be more likely to ignore the true positives). Look at the V1 in this regard e.g.
OTOH I have been using the previous generation (installed) K40 in my 911 for 6 years with no moving violations.

Boolala,
a lot of things come into play on that encounter
1. driving terrain ( up and down a hill )
2. cars on bot sides of the road
3. Buildings
However I do agree with you on the range thing, the more range the more likely they are to false.
Have you driven with the K40 RL360?
