Got New Toyo Proxes1's
I decided to put some new tires on my 2009 Carrera S. My Michelin Pilot Sport 2's were wearing very well but are now 2.5 years old. So I took them off and stored them in my garage.
I have had excellent experiences with Toyo RA1 and R888 for my track tires and I appreciate Toyo's grass roots involvement in motor sports and their involvement in the real street car racing such as World Challenge, SCCA and so forth. Cars like ours turned into race cars, lower budget teams...cars and people I can relate to and learn from.
Anyway, these Toyo Proxes1's have some very interesting technology, they look great and they are something new and different for me to try on my car.
Here is all the tech stuff:http://toyotires.com/tire/pattern/proxes-1
I only have around 50 miles on them since installed today and I will put hundreds of miles on them this weekend plus do an auto cross on them.
I will post up my feelings of this new tire compared with the Michelin Pilot Sport 2 that came on my car and are so popular on this forum.

Close to 1000 miles on these Toyo Proxes1 tires and they are working extremely well. They handle very well, ride quiet, responsive just everything you'd want in a performance tire. I got a chance to drive them in your typical Florida downpour and I have to say they tracked through the standing water better than the Michelin PS2's did and they were good.

Hey Mike - long time... Interesting time with so many new tires coming out (Pirelli Trofeo, Michelin Super Cup, etc.). I remember the original Pilot Sport being AMAZING and then when the PS2 came out it was terrible (relatively). Each new summer tire tends to eclipse the last and now they are equal to yesterday's R-comps.
Soon we won't have any 18" options for our cars...

The only 18" DOT R-Comp tire for our cars right now is Toyo R888's. We now have more choices in 19" R-Comp.
I'd still like to do back to back laps on 18" and 19" Toyo R888's just to feel what the difference would be at the limit on the track. I've asked everyone...Michelin race tire experts to an engineer for Porsche and the Flying Lizards. I got some answer but nobody know for sure.

I ran 19" R888 on Volks and 18" RA1s on Volks on the same car in 2009 with the same setup. The RA1 was clearly the quicker tire (and much quieter). Dog gone RA1s just won't wear out either I think I have 50 heat cycles on this current set that was shaved and there's still a good amount of rubber left (good alignment, even wear).
In 2 years when I've finally used up my late 2007 RA1s, it will be back to 19" format using Super Cups, Trofeos, R888, or whatever else is around in our 26.3" rear.

My current R888's have maybe 2 more DE's left in them. They are the usual 245/305 combo. I am seriously thinking I'l try out the 255/35/18 and 315/30/18 that I see so many GT3's now running. Same front to rear ratio but overall smaller diameter to lower the car some and gear it down some.

No they fit just fine...they are not a lot wider...the real benefit is the smaller diameter improves acceleration. Face at the track or at least the tracks I go to top speed of 186mph will never be possible....even Daytona...so I'd rather have shorter gears and that is easily done by a smaller over all diameter.
