Default First Post on Rennlist: I had my 1st real experience with a Porsche today

Ok, I'm a total newcomer in the sports car world. (I've lurked here a little but never posted) I just got back from a one-day PSDS at Barber Motorsports Park. Holy Cow! It was awesome! I was pretty nervous before we got on the raceway, thinking that I was maybe about to wreck an expensive car. But it was only a few seconds in on the first lap that I went from fear to reasonable confidence to rest-of-the-day perma-grin. Hands down the best adrenaline rush I have ever had.

I never knew how aggressive the initial braking for a corner needed to be. I guess that was the most surprising part about trying to learn the technique. Also I was shocked at how much the cars were able to grip the road.

Please forgive me if the PSDS topic is overused but I am so excited about today I couldn't resist. For over 25 yrs. I've thought that the 911 was the most awesome looking sports car out there. After today, I think the search for a 2009 or 2010 C2S will begin!

Congrats! It's gonna get expensive, but fun and worth every penny.

"These are awesome cars like no other."(I can't figure out how to do the quote box)

My first track session of the day was in a 6 spd manual C2S. We were instructed to keep it in 4th. It was never lugged but there times when it was at fairly low rpm.

My second track session was in a pdk C2S. Holy S--T! The pdk working to keep the car revved properly made it almost scary! (in a good way)

I've done the entire package at PSDS and it is surely a great time, welcome to the fold. Good luck on your eventual purchase

Thanks chopperzz. Posting here is a bit daunting when you don't know anything, especially the lingo and abbreviations. But it sure is cool to have this resource.

I hope y'all don't mind some questions during my purchase process. I'll do my best to search the forum first though.

Welcome to Rennlist and to Porsche!
I've spent 7 days at PSDS and will return again one day. It is by far the best 'mod' you can do for a Porsche.
Good luck with your car hunt.

You know,I was just wondering if I could skip over the Performance course since I'm not interested in the off road component. Is that the case? If so, it wouldn't put me in over my head?
In my earlier post, I'm not sure if it came through clearly but what I was trying to say was that the pdk made the car have so much power on tap for acceleration that it was crazy fast! Coming over the hill crest out of turn 4...whew!

Again, thanks to all for the encouragement!

It's neat that you can drive these all day in 4th gear. Today's larger displacement and torquier engines allow that. Prior to this you had to do a lot of gear shuffling to keep the power up. These motors today are tremendous!
