It feels like the battery is dead, and the drivers window is opening with every crank

Little power is needed to move that window. The power to crank the engine is much higher. Year of car? Original battery? Miles on car? Model?

Is a drain plugged and while washing the car did some water get in the cabin? In a door? Feel the cabin carpets under the seats, along the door bottoms for any signs of dampness.

Give the doors a shake and listen for any water.

Open the trunk and remove the battery cover and the panels on either side and verify the drains are open and clear and water didn't accumuate and soak something.

Or the battery might be dead. A battery can quit working at any time. The washing might be a coincidence.

Sincerely,

Macster.

now that you've had 12 hours to calm down and think about it, here's a few suggestions... this sounds to me like a battery issue, but not necessarily 'the battery'. the first thing i would do is disconnect the battery (ground side please). then just let everything in the car go to sleep for a few minutes. if you have the opportunity, look close at the battery ground cable and it's connector. look for any signs of discoloration. if you can, make sure that the ground attachment to the car is tight. after checking all this make sure that the positive battery connector is tight, now re-attach the ground cable to the battery and properly torque. if the car does not light up and fire off properly then there's one more thing that may be happening that is still related to the ground. there is a known issue with a badly manufactured ground cable related to mid production period 997's. you can find more about this porsche supplied bad ground 'feature' with a search here. but as others have said, it may just be a bad battery - good luck

What model year?
Did your hood happen to open unexpectedly when washing? (Or just make a sound like it's opening?)

just go to autozone, buy a matching battery ($125 or so), put it instead of yours and try again.

multiple 'click' from starter is usually a sign of lack of juice.

Walmart MAXX 94R - $77 exact replacement - better warranty than Porsche.

Sam's Club Energizer Battery group size 49 for $82.28. Same battery as Walmart but they add an extra year of warranty.

Not familiar with Sams (although local Sams carries Interstate). The Walmart size 49 is the wrong size - too long.

Default Won't start after carwash

Same thing happened to me last week we had a rain storm and came home from the store with the car going crazy in the driveway. Turns out the cowl drains were plugged so water a small amount got the control unit wet which makes the alarm system crazy.
Had to have it towed and they replaced the control unit and alarm under warranty. I have further learned it's not overly uncommon for those drains next to the battery to ge clogged with leaves pollen etc.

Its Fixed! Thanks for the replies! Its a 2009 carrera purchased brand new in dec 2009 &30000kms. I drive it every day and its been starting fine at -30 celsius just days ago. After 2 hours on the battery maintainer...It started I took it for a spin, it had a whining sound. but kept starting fine.

I brought it to the dealer and they checked, everything was fine and said i left the key in ignition for to long! and the whining sound was the alternater powering back the battery.

This was an issue with 2005 cars. HUGE issue, lawyers lawsuits car take backs. Etc. Porsche finally realized there was an issue with water getting under the hood. But should affect 2009's.

Old guy- it looks like the OP had a battery issue, not a cable/water issue.

I'm interested though, what changed between 2005 and 2009? is there a new seal or something to keep the water out of the battery/cable area?

thanks
