As Dan said:

Next week - White edition.
Following week - Red edition.
Following Week - Yellow edition.

... and so on, and so on.

All 1911-limited editions.

F'ing ridiculous. Porsche, have you no concept of brand preservation? After the Cayman "R" and the Speedster this nonsense adds up. It's like a name-brand-value liquidation sale. Every bit of integrity must go!

Black has been an unpopular color lately so they had to offer a special model to move out gallons and gallons of black Glasurit paint!

No such danger. This model has no distinction to any other Carrera other than a 25-cent number plaque and a different sill. No one, other than 3 people out there will notice any change.

My guess is that Porsche, moving to a 3.4 engine for the 991 Carrera and a 3.8 engine for the Carrera S, discovered that they have too many 3.6 liter engine cases in production and sales are not what they had hoped. Time to aid them along. (Why would anyone else produce a 'special edition' with the smaller engine?)

If so, they should have put them in the Cayman R to give it a real performance advantage, rather than making two paint-and-trim special editions.

No decal package? C'mon, not asking for Trans Am screaming chicken on the hood but at least some racing stripes! All kidding aside, Porsche marketing jumped the shark w/this one.

This car comes with black racing stripes, can't you see them there next to the black "Type R" sticker. ;-)

Personally, I don't get what the big deal is. The model count is way overblown, IMHO. I did an example before for other makes/models that can be just as bad, but everybody always points to the 911. I'm not going to do the full analysis this time, but compare the 911 to a BMW 3-series or a GMC Tahoe/Chevy Suburban and see what you end up with. For the Suburban, at least when I bought mine, there was an LS, LT, X71, etc. Not so bad, but figure there is one of those *each* for the 2WD and the 4WD. AND the 1/2 ton and 3/4 ton. AND for the regular and extended version (Tahoe and Tahoe XL). Don't forget about engines. There were 3 choices when I bought mine.
When you add it up, it very close to the 911 (Coupe, Cab, 2wd, 4wd, Turbo, 3.6 vs 3.8, etc), or the Tahoe may have more.
Get over it, I say!
