Porsches with tiptronic do not have rms or ims issues.

Is this true? Does anybody know of a tiptronic that had these issues?

 

They have less, but some still do (997.1).

Also note that the now discontinued tiptronic is a proper, near bullet-proof, Mercedes Benz transmission whereas the 6 speed is a POS Japanese import.

The 6-speed manual from Japan is actually pretty well made. But then, some people can break just about anything.

 

And yet we repeatedly of premature clutch failures, IMS, RMS failures. One person described the bolts to the clutch plate being sheared off.......

 

I'd imagine the perception of IMS/RMS failures being more common on the manuals may have something to do with manual transmission owners being more common online...

You may enjoy your torque converter, but it won't get closer to my sports car than being installed in a car parked next to it.

Boolala, you need to do some research...

The Aisin transmissions from Japan are not POSs. That's why the tiptronics in VWs and Audis are from Aisin. My son drives a 2001 Passat with a 5 speed tiptronic from Aisin. 130,000 mile with no problems at all. During a recent few years one had to pay extra for a Cadillac CTS to get an Aisin trans rather than a GM trans. The only negative with the manual trans in the 911 is that first gear is ground into the shaft which means it cannot be replaced if damaged. This is realy only a problem for those that regularly drop the clutch. Those folks should save some $$$$ on their initial purchase and buy a Corvette instead.

 

Moreover, the clutch, IMS and RMS have NOTHING TO DO with the transmission.

Talk to anyone who works on the AISIN transmissions from 996/997 cars and they'll tell you that the transmission is good for well over 600 HP and is exceptionally well fortified. In fact, it's a problem. Because they don't need to be rebuilt often, and tearing into a good transmission isn't cost effective, there aren't any manufacturers for different gear sets for these transmissions.

Automatic transmissions... lol cute. I guess you like to let your girlfriend drive sometimes...

Forgive the off topic reply. I love my manual but there is no way that I can consistently duplicate the mastery of the tiptronic shifts. Are most of you really so skilled that the Tip is undesirable? This is a sincere question not a dig at anyone.

 

Personally, no, my shifts aren't all they can be but that's the quest.
