Trickle Charging?
I have a trickle charger that I would like to use, but the trunk light would be on while I am charging. What is the solution here? How do you disable the trunk light or is their other ways. I know about the lighter plug in, I might need to get it.
I highly recommend your purchase a Porsche (or the equivalent--Sears sells a Die Hard maintainer for approx. $25.00) battery maintainer, which plugs into your lighter.
This is the safest way to maintain the battery while sitting for extended periods.

I have a CTEK on my 997 battery. I attach directly to the battery and leave the battery cover in the front trunk space. The cable from the battery can then be routed between the back of the hood and the windshield: there is plenty of room to then close the front hood without crimping any cables.
I have a CTEK with the cig lighter cord, which I plug into the passenger's footwell socket, routing the cord under the passenger's door. It closes fine...very handy, and no need to mess with the frunk.
BTW is this the lighter one

I have Porsche's charger (CTEK) and this is my 2nd winter of doing this......
I went to Autozone and bought a roll of rubber door gasket. I crack the driver's window down as miniumum as possible. I have the charger plugged in the center console. The cord runs out to the corner of the driver's window (upper right). I use the the door gasket to fill in the void between the window and the frame.
The cover's on the car. I don't like closing the cord on the door. Seems to be doing ok--no problems.

Thanks guys and this is also very interesting from morecarl! That being the case, why would I need the lighter unit, if I already have a convetional one.

It was my understanding that the 996's have the notch and the 997's do not.
Irregardless, I have had no issues just slamming the tiny wire through the door.

I have both the c-tek and battery tender and can close the frunk and still move the cord. I have the cord come out the bottom front side and it works great. I've been doing this for years on all my cars and have always been able to close the trunk or hood without pinching the cord.
