Default Disassembling strut

Can anyone offer advices on strut disassembly? I'm pulling the struts apart to put a shim under the spring to get a bit more ride height.

I have spring compressors (though it looks like it doesn't need to be compressed that much) and I've done plenty of strut jobs but just a few questions so i'm prepared:
  • do you disassembly the damper hose right at the top of the shock or do you disassemble at the hose junction (and then you have a tail at the top of the strut upon removal)?
  • is it possible to disassemble the 3 bolts at the strut and tip the strut out for disassembly (do not dissasmble the bottom of the strut from the car)?
  • Any
other watch-outs?

Thanks

I haven't done it, but there are some nice DIY's on installing springs that show all that stuff. I'll try to find it tomorrow if you can't.
