I have the 9500 with the super-cup mount. The dealer hard wired it into the overhead light near the windshield. Very clean and very effective!

Great. If you don't mind can you share copies of the install and the cost with me. Will be taking my car into the dealer to do some chnages to my centerconsole and would like to get the hardwire done at that time also.

Thanks Rob

No mine came with just the normal two suction cup mounting bracket...same/similar to my Solo S2. Guess that's good as I don't have to buy/switch out a new one and can re-use the current brackets/mount, huh?

Let's see. Your oldest car is a 08 and your cheapest is over $50K. Why don't you simply buy a dedicated unit for each vehicle and avoid having to swap it out.
Simple, problem solved.

Not a 9500 fan.

That is a thought but the 9600ci is the only one I know to be a dedicated installation and that would mean putting in at least 2 units in my vehicles and possible a 3rd for wifey at $1600+ each (best prices I've seen quoted). Not a huge expense but don't see it as really paying for itself over the long run. Last ticket was in Oct (my welcome to Texas ticket) but otherwise its been years since I've had one. Also not too sure if we're keeping the Cayenne past 2012 and my M3 may go toward a 2012-2013 Audi S7 whenever they release it IF its that good if so inclined. Hate to install dedicated stuff to vehicles which I may not retain. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the input tho!

I think "dedicated unit" meant just buying a detector like the 9500ix for each vehicle and hardwiring them. That's what I did; I have a V1 hardwired in each of my 3 cars and it's much less hassle than swapping one detector back and forth. When you sell a car it's simple to take out the detector and reuse it your new vehicle. Anyway, congrats on your cool gift.

+1.
Small, very precise, mine is hard wired and saved me several times already.
but i got to say, i see more and more cops sitting on a road side and radar is silent. I think they just check speed visually and then laser those who they see goes too fast.

Just did today in my M3 (dealer hardwired it) and 240 miles and it detected 2 bogeys waay farther than my old detector ever did. Also locked out erroneous X band whcih is nice especially when passing by a large outlet mall on the route!

997s hardwire is next week along with interior console and PDK updates! Thanx

Rob,

Are you installing a new leather or painted center console?

Hardwired units are a thief's target. No car should be parked and left alone with a radar detector in plain view.

My definition of "hardwired" is that power is supplied by a source in the car, preferably at the fuse box, that is switched on and off with the ignition, rather than having the detector plugged into an aux 12v outlet or the cigarette lighter. I hate the loose cord dangling about or having to remember to turn the detector on and off every time I use it. With a "hardwired" V1, at least, it's still easy to unplug and hide the detector, and tuck the connector out of sight when necessary.

I got a V1 three years ago before a road trip from SF to LA. I bought it more for entertainment and to help me stay awake. Repeated that road trip only once and used the V1 sparingly on shorter trips. There were certainly a few times I was amazed on how well it worked . . . once when a CHP slowly came from behind. . . . another time when it spotted one in the middle of the night. However, there were equally enough times I went right past a police car without warning.

With as many police these days on the road looking for speeding cars, forget it. But the V1 is still entertaining.

The only really useful gizmo for road trips at least driving into So-Cal is NAV with real time traffic. I was completely amazed with how the unit in our VW minivan pulled us out of traffic on the way to Disneyland. Saved us a few hours from sitting in traffic.

Real time traffic advisories have been around for decades--in Europe. In Europe, there are many road options so that sort of thing is highly effective. In the States, there are often few options. What I would like to see in the USA is what they have in Europe--traffic advisories without the need for any sort of subscription. One would think that the US government would subsidize that capability to save fuel and avoid wasted time for Americans sitting in traffic. But then, this government mostly spends money on worthless stuff that only benefits a few. On top of that is the tendenc never to do something that has been successful in Europe, under the "not invented here" concept.

Having eric @Bumperplugs do a custom painted center console in Satin Black to match the OEM PCM faceplate finish and thus will continue that theme down the middle of the car sort of like other sports/exotics I've seen. Replacing the PDK shifter and e-brake with a leather black and aluminum one from SunCoast and the console lid with a black leather stitched one from Suncoast as well. Should contrast well with the sand beige/black interior otherwise (I have black heavy duty berber mats front and back already). Really wish the car came with two tone interior but since I bought it off the lot didn't have that choice. Am told I CAN get it redone that way by ordering the parts (dash, headliner, mirrors, pillar pieces, and upper door trim) but by god it would be $$$ or so the dealer says. Also changing out the rear Carrera S emblems (Currently added a Red S but seems more Acura-ish to me although I do like how it individualizes the car) to matte black when I take it in for the above changes and hard-wire.

All goes with the darkened/matte black theme of the GT3 RS cars (can't stand the neon glow green or orange tho..just my personal choice since I think Speed Yellow is hypnotizing while others can't stand it!). Anyway since I plan on keeping the car for more than a min so its a maybe but not a high priority now. We'll see. Thoughts?

+1 I never leave my detector hanging in the bracket after I shut off the vehicle. I remove and stow it or take it with me in my bag/briefcase/messanger bag or flight gear. Only times I leave it be is on base as if you can't be safe on a military installation from theives then what is the world coming to!
