Mine is a 2010, it was at Version V, went to the dealer a few days ago and asked for the PCM update, and now it reads v1.47. I did not get a map update, just the firmware. Is the map update required to get v.2.23 firmware?

Yes, the 2012 map update included the 2.23 firmware for me, and presumably so does the 2013.

My iphone 7 does not pair with the PCM 3.0 v 1.40..

Will an update sort this?

Can't specifically say it would fix your issue. I can only tell you I upgraded about a year and half ago to firmware 2.24 and upgrade maps at the same time. I have a 2011 C2S. I was connecting a blackberry passport via PCM 3 Bluetooth and recently switched to an IPhone 7. No issues adding my new IPhone 7 to the PCM and works well.

I upgraded both maps and firmware this past June. I an able to easily Bluetooth my Android phone. Maps updated though still not showing newer roads.
