Of course that begs the question of why you would even have a need to wring out better performance from the 997.2 TT conisdering that it simply walks away from the first generation car, now doesn't it?

I'd guess it is because many of the Gen 1 machines are modified to make more power. Once that's done, the Gen 2 machine might not have such an easy time to "walk away" from it.

Show me a modded gen 1 car whose performance matches that of the new Turbo S................
And how much did it cost to achieve that level of performance (e.g., the ridiculously expensive Ruf modifications)?

I was only trying to speculate the reason why people are interested in the durability of the old engine vs. new.. (that's what was being discussed above)
At the 500hps level, both can handle that just fine.. I am sure.. (as the power is still within the design envelope) and then people start to add more power to them..
I wouldn't be surprised if a 650hps gen 1. TT would be faster than the new Turbo S, even given the lack of PDK. How does the new GT2 RS stack up against the Turbo S? (since the GT2RS uses a modified version of the old engine) For sure the 0-60mph the Turbo S will be much faster w/ the launch control and 4WD, but the GT2RS probably will catch up once hooked up..
Anyway, not arguing w/ you regarding whether it makes financial sense or not to mod a gen. 1 TT, but I'm sure someone would do it (because they could).. and then someone who has the gen. 2 would then want to catch up, etc.

The turbo S is even quicker than the GT2 RS upto about 120 mph, then the GT2 RS takes over if conditions are right. I just got my turbo S, it really is much better than my stock 09 tt. I have both of them, there is really no comparison. I will still keep my 09 though because it is a manual.
