My 06 Carrera S has a stock non PSE setup. I'd like to upgrade and was considering adding PSE but is there some aftermarket setup I should look at. I dont need to set off car alarms ......often. Cheers everyone.

Porsche PSE is very good. $$$. No drone. Another advantage of the PSE, if installed by a dealership, you have a warranty, and have an on/off funtionality.

I have the PSE on my 2008 S and while most here love it, I find it sounds a little too "ricey" and wish it was tuned down a few pitches.

PSE sounds great with none of the drawbacks (drone, loss of low end torque, etc.) that you can get with some aftermarket exhausts. And, of course, you can switch it off if you want to. Add in the fact that if installed by the dealer it will be warrantied for the remainder of your factory warranty and it seems a clear choice to me. I love the PSE on my car.

Porsche worked hard on developing the PSE after they discovered how much 996 owners hated the mundane sound coming from their watered down 911s. The result is a very fine exhaust tone that is better in that you can turn it on or off at will.

Mike, I am not sure if the warranty for the PSE is the remainder of the factory warranty or just 12 months. IIRC, when the PSE was added to my 987S, it was just for 12 months. Either way, it's "piece of mind".

For sound, you can't go wrong... although some do the PSE hack and achieve the same, at a MUCH LOWER COST!

For HP gain however, you gotto look aftermarket.

Warranty on an exhaust system is a non-issue. Properly installed, they are completely reliable and cause no check engine lights. The PSE is generally regarded to have a good sound and is switchable, but is heavy and expensive. PSE, or most aftermarket mufflers, provide little to no increases in power. Spend your money to install proper aftermarket headers, free flow catalytic converters and free flow mufflers. Additional power, and sound will be civilized at moderate rpm's. A multitude of systems are available: AWE, FVD, Cargraphic, Fabspeed, etc.

You know, you may be right. I was thinking of dealer add-ons done at the time of sale, not after the fact. So 12 months is no doubt correct. Thanks for the correction.

PSE Exhaust Hack "GUNDO HACK"

A "GUNDO HACK", is turning a stock 997 muffler into a PSE (Porsche Sport Exhaust).

This is accomplished by welding a 1.5"-2" pipe connecting the 2 pipes of the muffler.

Some would recommend something less than 2" pipe. Mine is 2" and it is pretty loud. Maybe 1.75" is the sweet spot.

It creates a much deeper and louder sound than stock, similar or better than the PSE.

This can be done by any local muffler shop for about $200.

Just remove mufflers, take them to a muffler shop and show them these pictures, and say: "DO THIS!"
