Good twisty roads near Rancho Cucamonga, CA?
(I also posted this in the Regional Section.)
I'm new to the area and can't seem to find any scenic twisty roads nearby. I just ordered a couple of books today from Amazon but was wondering if anyone in the area can recommend any roads.
I'm from MA where I could find twisty roads 5 minutes from my house. All the roads nearby (that I have found) are straight as an arrow and littered with traffic lights.
Thanks in advance!

Mulholland or Mt Palomar. Neither are that close but they are a sports car nuts paradise. Mt Palomar is closer and minimal traffic.

HOWEVER, be advised that CHP is running a high intensity enforcement campaign in those mountains. They're great roads but they'll be clogged with skiers until March, and clogged with CHP until who knows when!

Take a drive to Idylwild. Head towards Palm Springs & around Banning, there's an exit towards the mountain road. There's a great restaurant for lunch (Aroma Cafe). The car magazines use the road all the time. You can go up the road from Banning & after lunch, head down the opposite way into Palm Desert. That would be a great day of driving. You won't regret it.

I'll be trying all of these at some point.

Breakfast at Newcomb's Ranch, Route 2, is always great. Watch out for the bikes, the earlier you go the better.
The CHP is active up here as well.

Right. Sorry if I didn't immediately correct. Rte 2 is closed, but the Sunland access is probably a better ride anyway; there's less chance you'll meet motorcycle traffic. Further out the 210 west, off Osborne up to the 14 is a nice little loop as well, and once you get up toward Valencia, there's a lot of good choices.

I drive by there on the 210 Freeway and see the sign saying closed and did not think about the Sunland side.

Man I miss SoCal roads and the year round driving. I especially miss South Grade road coming down Mt Palomar, it is incredible and guaranteed to make your brakes red hot!

If you're game you can come up and join the Santa Barbara Region of PCA--we try to hit the better sports car roads in the area. Ojai, for instance, is a nice drive. We generally meet on the first Saturday of the month at 8:30 am at the Camarillo airport.
