Default LWFW Poll

Ok, I have read the various threads about the positive aspects of a LWFW as well as the apparent harmonic dampening issues and vibrational damage/failure of the crankshaft on our 997 engines due to removal of the OEM designed dual mass flywheel. I purchased my car with a previously installed ASR LWFW and stage 2 clutch installed so I am a little concerned about the longevity of my engine. On the other hand, I am loving the revs of this engine and the noticeable acceleration performance.

Please only vote if you have actual experience with a LWFW on our cars, or if you are a tuner/professional porsche shop (Sharkwerks, TPC, LN, etc) that can help explain why it is "ok" to install this upgrade given the risks identified by Porsche TSB and the documented crank failures on the internet. Thanks.

With every mod there is a trade off. If you track your car or are the type that feels a slight increase in having the engine rev and respond quicker trumps overall comfort, quiet and smoothness you may like this. I see plenty of rough riding lowered cars where the suspension is pretty non-existant. Some people must like this as you see an awful lot of it. I did in my younger years, what I would not do now. To each their own.

I know that a LWFW is a lightweight flywheel.

I am a democrat.

I used one on a friend's 964 and found it simply wasn't worth the problems it created. It is not something you want to have in a street car daily.

These cars work so well as they are out the door.

If you indicate that you experienced damage, please comment on what the damage was. It would be great to get as much real-world info on this as possible. Thanks.
