Indeed, those plug guns with the self vulcanizing plugs are the current "state of the art". You could open your own flat repair shop with one of those kits.

I'm just north of San Francisco, but I realize we have different versions of AAA. I just upgraded our coverage to Premier, so it is offered in certain parts of CA. One more reason to move up north!

What would make sense is that the dealers keep spares (not donuts but a real tire) on hand, dispatch them with RA - no tow truck needed - way cheaper. They return the take-off to the dealer to install a new tire, then ship you, if necessary, the wheel/tire and you return the spare. If a tow is really $800, there's got to be a cheaper way to handle a flat tire - save the tow truck for a serious problem where the car won't run.

Had a similar experience with my 09 Carrera S about 1 month after purchase. Hit a seam/pothole on the highway at 70+ mph and all of a sudden dash lit up red with "flat tyre" warnings. The OEM Porsche Sealant/Fix kit was worthless and luckily I was able to limp the 5-10 miles home by getting off the highway and taking side roads home. But had to get a whole new tire from TireRack which took me about 48hrs since there were no cheaper options locally (i.e. dealer and local tire shops were all about $50-100 more). Luckily my rim held up without any undue stress or problems and was checked out by my dealer later (after new tire mounted) and certified as good as new.
But yeah I agree this is a problem that PCNA should be more aware of. Another reason as you all suggest to carry alot of fix a flat and your own personal patch kit combo in your cars.

Where did you put the jackstand in your photo? Is it sitting on the control arm? I would have thought you would need to put the jackstand at one of the lift points on the frame itself, not on the unsprung wheel/suspension
