Best way to purchase Porsche extended warranty?

I have been toying with the idea of getting an extended warranty on my 2008 C2S with 9,300 miles. The factory warranty expires April 2012.
I have been quoted $1918 from a Porsche dealer for a policy written by Fidelity (Platinum exclusionary) for 5 years/60K miles (from the time the policy is written) with $100 deductible. 7 years/70K miles premium is $2558. I also received quotes for EasyCare from another dealer 3 year/36K miles with $250 deductible for $3700 (did not negotiate the price).
I was told that once the mileage exceeds 10K miles, the pricing increases by almost a $1K. Have not pulled the trigger (yet) as I think the mechanical issues on the post 2005 997s seems to be uncommon. Three Service Directors at different Porsche dealerships have told me that these cars have been very reliable to date.
On the fence!

I'm looking to buy my first 911 (997.1) and recently got these quotes from Costco for an 07 C2 with 17k miles:
$3015 6 years /60k miles
$1600 3/36
This is an exclusionary warranty sold by Costco covered by Century and has a $100 deductible. Looks like the fidelity might be a better deal, though this car is out of warranty and has more miles.

Mark,
I guess you have to decide if you want to "self insure" or pay someone else to insure your car. You might pay $2K for warranty coverage and never need it. On the other hand, if you "self Insure" can you stand a $17K to $19K bill if the IMS bearing goes bad and takes out your engine?

it is all about risk taking indeed. but with the potential of engine failure on this engine , I think better be safe than sorry. the little things under $5k I would be ok to self insure, but the engine cost is too much of a risk I think.
I don't see how I would explain to my wife how I have to spend $20k on a new engine, I think I would have to drive a honda civic for the next 20 years after that loll

I have Fidelity Gold+ and had to make a claim a few months ago to fix leaky RMS and IMS. $2000 job (done by the dealer) - no issues and covered by Fidelity. I did have to make a 1 call as the local (independent) claim adjuster said my car is used for racing, which it is not. I called Fidelity and told them the car is absolutely not used for racing. They called the dealer and covered the claim within the hour.

[quote=Frino;8019129]Here's a non-factory warranty option if you have Geico or are thinking about switching insurance providers; Geico offers mechanical breakdown insurance (MBI) that can be added within the first year of new car ownership. Covers everything mechanical for seven years/100K miles with a $250 deductible per visit. You can take your vehicle where ever you want for service.
Cost is approximately $50 every six months.

I did get a hold of Geico for a quote and it sounds interesting. Their coverage, however, is only available in the first 15 months/15000 miles of a new vehicle. The cost is low, but you have to have Geico car insurance to qualify. Their premium is over $200 more per year than my current insurance, so not as good a deal as you might think.
It may be different in different states, but at least here in Pa, the Easy care rates are the same up to 25,000 miles as long as the vehicle has at least 1 day and 1 mile of original warranty left for the "new vehicle plans". If your car is already out of original warranty, their "used vehicle plans" rates are good for up to 20,000 miles initially.
Cost is approximately $50 every six months.

I have never heard of this company before. Not much info on the web. Plus, it doesn't have a rating by the BBB. I'm glad it worked for you. Thanks for the info.

I call spam. Scott here has made 7 posts on the day he joined recommending this company. He has also had them repair 2 different BMW's, a dodge charger, an infinity and a toyota. That's a lot of warranty work this month. Luckily he called 5 different companies about each vehicle.

Porsche 911 Warranty
If you buy the warranty look for the limits of liability in the contract. Some contracts have certain limits to there contracts. I bought coverage from this place National Repair Solutions, they set me up with American Auto Shield. They have limits for $15,000 or value of the vehicle which ever is higher. Hope that helps someone!
