The racks are very well designed and sturdy.
How easy is it to get that bike up there?

4 seasons daily driver in Chicago. Only a problem if the snow gets really deep.

Were you driving the car on remote control in the second pic?

Screw the roof rack.
Buy a cabrio and stick the 'board out the top.
Heat on, full blast.
Hat.

Use my C4S in the snow all the time. Have a 18 inch wheel/Michelin PA 2 set up. I can certainly understand why one would be hesitant to drive their P-cars in bad weather considering how some others drive their cars.

Drive it man. My C2 is wonderful in the white stuff. And we know snow here in Ottawa, Canada.

Just put a brick on the accelerator for a few minutes, took a bunch of pictures and stayed out of the way..... or Photoshop.

I think using a C4/S as a ski car is a terrific idea. If i had the means - and lived where they didn't salt the roads to within an inch of their life - I would be strapping my boards to the roof every weekend. I only wish they made the Targa 4/S roof-rack friendly.

Not to go O/T, but I love that photo of that roof-boxed Gallardo. If i'm not mistaken, it's owned by Jon Olsson, Swedish pro skier and lambo collector - and I believe that's actually his "beater" lambo, as he also has a Murcielago, ostensibly for powder days :-)

I wonder if he has trouble meeting women?

Travelling to vermont from NYC every weekend in winter I would have to disagree for several reasons.

Ride height often the roads dont get cleared so quickly much less the mountain parking lots and access roads. Often theres a lot of crud in between the tire grooves- that front lip is expensive to replace.

Then theres the crud on your shoes and ski boots (w kids) your interior will take a beating.

Salters and sander will plaster your front end if your stuck behind them

Then there are the other idiots on the road who have little snow driving experience- sheet metal repair on porsches isnt cheap

Personally i bought the winter package with my carrera- its a ford explorer

Can you share the option code for this package?

Sorry but could not resist. I'm very open to trying this out with the p-car but if needed, I do have the wife's trusty Yukon Denali to fall back on. Also, being in the PNW, I haven't seen any use of salt yet and rarely any sand either. If I lived on your coast, I'd garage it as well more than likely.

Peterm is right on all counts, but if your wife already has the Denali and road salt isn't an issue, why not go for it? Life is too short to have TWO purely practical cars :-)

Disclaimer: I don't own a porsche [yet] but hope to some day, so I am not speaking as an owner , just as a rabid enthusiast who knows what they *would* do, given the opportunity.

I agree completely. I had an S4 Avant that I thought would be a great car for occasional ski trips in the Sierras...but with 3-4 people, luggage, and gear, the car would high-center with any accumulation. I imagine a C4S would do the same.

Agree. You could do it, but why would you. My "winter package" is a older, low-miles Xterra 4X4 that I bought for $7-8K. Ground clearance would be an issue in a P-Car at least in Mammoth, where I ski.
