Default Crazy to want to use 997 4S for snowboarding trips?

Hey folks. I'm not even sure there is a roof rack option for the 997 to allow me to do this but even so, am I crazy for wanting to consider using the 997 4S as a viable car in the snow to take me to and from the slopes with my kids? I think it would be a hoot but...

Obviously this car would not be a garage queen. I'm getting one to enjoy to the fullest. Anyone doing something similar have any thoughts? I'm in the Pacific Northwest so don't really have to worry about salt on the roads during the winter. Dumb drivers however we have plenty of.

Sure you can, just rent the board when you get to the mountain! Easy fix!

Default Just go find the snow!

All it takes is the will and a little courage to do it! Sounds like you have it

Just make sure you're running winter tires when you're driving in the snow. I suggest you pick up a set of 18" wheels with nice snow tires for the winter months and you'll be golden. There are more options for tires with the 18" wheel size than with the factory 19" wheels that come standard on an S or 4S.

My buddy drove his C2 in Rhode Island year around... with snow tires on he took many ski trips and loved it. I'm looking for a rack myself. It does snow in Germany you know!

Porsche has outstanding roof rack options, and I think it's a great idea to use a C4 for ski trips, just get proper tires as others have said. I've taken my previous 996s to many cross country trips (which have identical roof rack options), including bike and ski trips (though I haven't taken a picture with a snow board on the car);

The racks are very well designed and sturdy.

A C4S is one of the best winter cars you can buy. Weight bias over the drive wheels, AWD to help out when necessary, precise steering with accurate information about what's going on at the contact patch...the best!

When choosing your wheels and tires I suggest you consider room for chains as they are often required in the mountains out west, IIRC.

+1.

The only limitation is ride height. If you ever go through deep snow, you'd be stuck. So, it depends what kind of roads you're gonna encounter on your way to boarding.

I use my C4S in the city in winter times, with 18inch Michelin PA2 tires, and it does great! However, if I was planning to go to unpaved roads, where there's deep snow, I rather find a used Audi Allroad, and call it a day!
