Can you turn TPMS off if winter tires don't have sensors?
I am considering some winter tires and rims - the tires don't have TPMS sensors - my C2S is fitted with TPMS. Ignoring for a moment the safety benefits of TPMS - can one turn off the on board monitoring so that it does not constantly show an error message when running non TPMS tires? If one cannot does this constant error cause any problems / issues with the car (aside from notable driver irritation). Can one by and install the TPMS sensors separately ?If yes, any sense for the rough cost of that (ie am I best to buy tires with the sensors in or can i retro fit easily) ?
Any comments / experience / advice would be appreciated
Many thanks

No. You can't simply turn it off in the cockpit. The real solution is to spring for an additional set of TPMS senders (make sure you get the right frequency) and have them installed within the tires before you mount the snows. Go to Sunset Porsche or Suncoast Porsche for pricing. Roughly $100 or less a corner.

You can, but not through dash. Either via dealer, or the aftermarket ECU mod.

I wish the government would get the f#ck out of my cornflakes.
At least up here in red Canada, any dealer I've tried for my car or my wife's suv wont turn off the tpms.

Pretty sure if the batteries wear out (supposed to be 10 year or so life on the batteries) that the sensors won't be recognized. In that case you would get an error that apparently you can't correct. I thought on my Cayenne I could turn off TPMS, evidently not so on the 997.

How do you (or how does the dealer) turn it off (presuming one can)? Mine has been a royal PITA and I hate it. This is one thing they could definitely make optional IMO.

I dont know what the true legal status is, but what I've been told by several dealers (all of whom wouldn't turn it off) is that its a government mandated safety system. Sort of like asking them to disable an airbag
