Default 997.1 LED tail light retrofit (3rd party)

Thought you guys might be interested in this...

Over on that other forum there is a discussion about the availability of a third party LED taillight for the 997.1:
http://www.6speedonline.com/forums/9...available.html

Based on the photos and video, it looks pretty good. But the owner says it throws a turn signal error. Too bad it was almost the perfect solution.

What problem are you trying to solve that needs *this solution*?

I really do NOT get the whole LED thing... it's just a new way of emitting light at lower wattage, and in many cases it looks A LOT WORSE than original lights, and even in this *perfect* solution it still looks worse than original design.

I only like LED to be used as my DRL, instead of using my Xenon, that'd be a benefit, otherwise, all of these aftermarket stuff will just make your car look like a Civic hack job and a ricer!

What problem? Did I mention any problem that needs solving? I personally like the look of LED on 997.2 but I am not about to trade my year old car for one, nor cut into a perfectly good bumper to install one. This provides a good way to get LED upgrade.

I tend to agree, but wouldn't pay a lot of money for the aesthetic benefits. Also, another benefit of LED lights is their fast ramp-up time. I can't remember the actual figures, but compared to regular filament lights, they illuminate something like 100 milliseconds quicker. This could be a benefit if the guy behind you gets an additional 100 millisecond warning from your brake-lights. At 60 mph that would translate to him stopping about 9 feet sooner, which might avoid a rear-ender.

Based on the vid, the aftermarket version doesn't quite have the 997.2 OEM look. The lighted strip seems too thin to me. If I really wanted LEDs, I'd just swap for a 997.2 rather than hacking up my 997.1.

There's just NO reason for one to wanna upgrade to LED tails... even aestethically it looks much better OEM than aftermarket LED.

As I said, IF there was a viable front fog light LED aftermarket, I might look into it, as I rather have LEDs for Daytime Running Light, but I really think the 997.1 tail light look just fine, and I do NOT wanna pretend I own another car (which its engine sounds worse than mine)!

Years from now the LED lighting will be dated and they'll say, "oh yea, that was back when they started putting LEDs on everything. Look how tacky it is now, compared to the latest lighting capability," e.g., quantum dots.
