Why should I buy a Carrera S ?
I test drove the carrera S 2006 its amazing HP/acceleration wise but around the corners the rear would tend to slide ... the M3 on the other hand handles UNBELIEVABLE, I took the same turn abt 10- 15 mph more, tires screeched but car didn't slide ... so my question to all p-car gurus is, why shd I spend 50 grand when I can get 2 more seats and abt the same HP better handling with an M3 competition pkg or for that matter an E55 or C55 for a lot less money ? I have to say the 997 widebody looks are just stunning esp if you have the aero kit ... pls convince me to get one : )

The 911, on the other hand, takes skill and a feel for the transfer of weight as it moves into, round and out of the corner. Once you develop that feel you'll never want anything else. And it's a million times better looking. Get a friendly 911 owner to show you how to handle her, then you'll understand.

Why do you need others to convince you to buy? If you can't convince yourself to buy a Porsche then you should buy something else, like the M3 since you like it more than the Porsche.

It takes time and effort to learn how to drive a 911 well. I had an E46M3 and it was far easier and more forgiving to drive. Once I learned how to drive my 964 well there was no comparison. On the skidpad I could hop in and drive sideways lap after lap - not so on the 911. It took time and patience.
I am about to learn how to drive a 997.1 just as well. I can't wait to get it on the track in a few weeks.
The more time you spend at the track with a 911/997 the more fun you will have.

To those who know what I think about the upcoming 991:
I think this is why PAG increased its wheelbase (beyond the EPA loophole).

I don't know, probably the similar reason why buy a BMW M3 while a 2011 Mustang GT is much cheaper, laps virtually almost as fast, goes faster in 0-100mph, brakes shorter in 60mph-0, and even has more cargo space (as tested by MotorTrend in its 2010/10 issue.)

Wow, I drove an M3 before driving the Pcar and it was no contest. The M was boring and the Pcar was a revelation it was so involving and fun to drive. If you didn't like it, get the M3...
I knew after my test drive of the 911 which car I wanted, no need to think about it at all.

Who really cares about laptimes and corner entry speeds besides the mags and race drivers? Get what *you* want. You'll be much happier with it and drive it more. Don't rely on anyone else to tell you what you want. I believe it was someone on this forum that told me to test drive everything and take my time making my own decision. Very sage advice that I pass onto you. I did that and am very happy with my decision. Three weeks later, I still smile every morning I walk into my garage to head to work, every time I head out to lunch, and at the end of the day when I commute back home.
