"S" versus non-S Differences?
#31
Other than the increase in horsepower and bigger brakes (at least I thought they were bigger) are there any huge differences in the cars like stiffer suspensions, equipment, etc...?
I was just trying to find a comparison between the two and have not not been able to isolate it.
From my readings the S's increased power is good on the track but in normal driving you its not that much of a difference. Is this true or no?
I wont ever be driving on the track so this is all about the street for me.

You get a great looking "S" after the Carrera name on the trunk or hood whatever they call it...

If you were looking at a .1 then the argument for an S would be stronger but with the .2 the base Carrera is very close to a .1 S.
In your situation and assuming you don't want to track the car I'd buy a base Carrera with PDK and Chrono. If you do want to track it then the bigger brakes of an S do provide more consistent feel and amazingly good pad life.
I've had both a .1 base and a .2 S as everyday cars and both have been tracked.

i have base .1 car heavily rebuilt and on latest DE when we were going full throttle i was keeping behind 997 gt3 on 3rd gear. i think he did not want to redline but I am more than satisfied with acceleration rate on my car with 200 cell cats and softronic flash. it revs up easily, pulls hard, i am not sure if it is that imperative to have that subtle difference from 3.6 to 3.8 engine on 997.1 cars. it would not hurt that is true, but it is hardly a major factor.
that said, i've kept up with F430s on the track and that doesn't make me a great driver or have a faster car. additionally, you've modded your car which involves significant expense and my void the warranty.
just saying.

Correct, see my sig! haha
So you quickly sum it up, you get the 19" wheels, lower profile tires, Better brakes (see below), PASM, more hp and tq, different exhaust tips, and some misc other things. All about the benjamins, if you have it, why wouldn't you go for it.
Brake description from site
"The S models have four-piston aluminum monobloc calipers that are larger, reinforced and have a striking red painted finish. The front axle has larger brake pads and thicker brake discs."
Incase I am missing something

I think you got your answers... if not, here are the main differences:
- engine
- brakes
- PASM suspenstion standard on "S"
- 19" standard on "S"
- Sports Chrono standard on "S" (at least on 997.1)
The rest are all options... so if you found a C2 with PASM and 19" it's pretty much the same as "S" without the engine/brakes.
