Come on, man, Berkeley is a perfect utopia for libs - a model of what all American cities should be like. Even the roads are amazing (as in amazingly bad, just like SF, ha).

Just watch out for the Volvos man.... they'll slam on the breaks in front of you if they think someone might need to cross the street.

Some of us hippies drive Porsches too.
MPG/HP just might be the best there is.

Looking through the archives many people like EMC Fremont, but a couple have some negative things to say. I could not find negative comments (on Rennlist at least) about Matthew Carlsen in Palo Alto (of course, I didn't read *every* post). Anyone with additional thoughts between these two places?
"Berkeley - figures. Stupid dirty hippies. You weren't taking up 2 spots or anything like that, were you?"
No, nothing like that. Just in a spot far from anyone else....I will not stop being outraged until the damage is fixed.

On the Berkeley comments, Berkeley has better food and views than the peninsula/South Bay, but when it comes to issues of crime, safety, and infrastructure, the peninsula/South Bay is much, much better than Berkeley and SF.

Please . . . I've felt safer parking my car just about anywhere in Berkeley than leaving it (even within eyesight) for five or ten minutes in parts of the Diamond or Laurel or Fruitvale Districts in Oakland. Doesn't matter where you are, you park your car - you take your chances and trust decency to reign.

I know both. Mathew-Carlsen is better.

I just used B&S in Dublin to paint a fender on my M3. They did a great job of matching a difficult color (metallic grey).

Cheers,
Joe

Anyways, this happened in Berkeley in one of the university parking lots (the new underground lot Haste Street and Channing). A few months back they started to allow hourly parking (instead of just yearly passes), and the lot became less safe. I'm not parking there anymore.

I think this would be much less likely to have happened in Palo Alto.

I'm thinking of going to EMC in Fremont, as a couple of you have helpfully suggested.
i studied at Cal for 8 years. NEVER park a porsche anywhere near berkeley unless you are on very top of Berkeley hills. it has nothing to do with hippies, but sh*t seems to just happen in and around berkeley. now the town is 'gentrified' a lot, different kind of sh*t happen... but sh*t happens. i go there to eat 1-2x a week, love it. but not in porsches.

fruitvale..... forget parking a porsche there, i drive pass that area as fast as i can and when my BART has to stop there, i be extra careful. some towns shouldn't exist and this is one of them.

mathew carlsen or the works autobody are the only two shops i trust.

holy christ, NEVER let EMC touch your car. i took my turbo bug (which is as important to me as any of my RS's), they painted OVER the clear bra on the door sill WTF.... moron's. just morons. makes my blood boil every time i drive pass them on the fwy.

m. carlsen does lots of porsches.
the works autobody (near SJ airport) does lots p car and LOTS of ferrari's.
they painted the hood of my orange RS.

I have gotten very good refs about MC but I just received a note from Brady about a car (Lexus bumper) painted by MC with a very poor color match. So beware...

Thank you for all of the body shop suggestions, and for validating my outrage. Both are *very* helpful!
