New M3 is a fatty . . . The Ring tells all.

M3 DCT vs C2S PDK - and the m3 has tune and exhaust(mufflers)

But I think the M3 vs 997.1 both same gearbox that the m3 is faster....although i think the porsche will typicaly win to 60mph due do rear engine grip

And here is the C&D comparo

"And here is the C&D comparo"

Ugh, C&D is so gross. The guys who test the cars don't know how to drive. It's just miserable when they're taking ridiculous lines into corners and making the 911 understeer and then complaining about it. Check out TTAC for more analysis of C&D failure.

The only way the M3 would come out ahead of the 997.1 is because they do it from a 2nd gear roll. This negates the huge weight disadvantage of the M3 AND the (relative) lack of traction off the line. Also those are typically done with two large adults, which clearly favors the much higher HP car.

But anyway, it's a drag race, and neither car was meant for that. They were intended to be all around performers, and the 'ring times are unambiguous. The 997.2S has a 15 second gap over the M3, which is in another LEAGUE. If you go 15 seconds behind the e92M3 you get the 'ring laptime of the e46M3, and entire generation prior. Again, the 911 is in another league in overall performance. Not really comparable.

I agree...the 997 has much more off the line traction...I have owned both of these cars. I love both of these car. But the M3 weighs too much for sure.

Also in the 15 sec advantage on The Ring....The 997.2 C2S had the PS CUPS and PDK gearbox....the M3 was on PS2's and a Manual gearbox. Just stating facts. There is definitely some time gained from each of those difference.

The 997 C2S sure has better brakes, like everyone says.

On track, if all equal, I would always pick the car with better brakes.

The stock m3 brakes fade very quickly...maybe good for 2 to 3 laps on a 2min track from my experience.
