Congratulations. Look forward to your review of the car after you take delivery. I am considering the cab version and doing another european delivery. This will then become my new DD. I will definitely opt for PDK and paddle shifters.

Its a great car. If it were available last year, I would definitely have bought it. I love the wide rear but did not want 4WD. It comes with X51 and PSE (perfect!).

This is the same concept as the 2004 40th anni. Last year model run (a few nice parts plus X51). It wont make it "valuable" (ask me I know) but its a very nice car.

I'm sure it's marketing strategy, clearing out the inventory, improving lagging sales at the end of the MY and everything else mentioned above. Sometimes it's fluff and offers no real value. Sometimes it's all it takes to get someone on the fence to actually buy it. I have a friend that wanted a Boxster for a while and couldn't pull the trigger until the RS 60 came out and I fell for the Spyder (love it). If you go to Porsche club events, there may be bunch of Boxsters or 911's but the special editions seem to stand out over the regular models (Spyders, RS Americas, Speedsters, Anniversary editions). And sometimes owners feel a certain sense of pride owning something just a little bit different from the others when in fact they may be the same except for color or decals. I think the GTS offers more than the usual for the end of MY specials.

Another model will be launched soon - 911 Speedster. Just another parts bin special - looks like a GTS convertible with some added plastic humps covering the soft-top roof when retracted.
It also uses the 4 widebody, just like GTS

as the new types just keep coming...someone mentioned that Porsche's marketing guys are on overdrive... could it also be that there is some fear that the 911 line is suffering from the volume declines due to the panamera and new cayenne? new models have come but since then the volumes for the 911 have stayed intact. the new models would quickly rise but 911 volumes soldiered on...Now, with the panamera and new cayenne 911 volumes have gone down...maybe substantially to make mr Muller ask his marketing team to boost 911 volumes..

These 'new' 911 models were in development years ago; long before the Panamera and new Cayenne debut.

Check the Porsche web site. The Speedster comes with those gawd-awful looking pseudo-Fuchs wheels.

the answer is ... because they can.

But it does seem very short sighted. All this milking the brand name for maximum profit has already besmirched the brand among most youthful buyers.

Ha ha Tim. That's so funny. I love the fake fuchs wheels and tried desperately to get them on my Spyder. I've always loved the looks of the Fuchs on the older Porsches and think it's a fitting tribute to modern cars. To each, his own and that's probably why so many different people buy these variations of the venerable 911. I think the Speedster humps are absolutley fugly but the next guy loves em.
